We live in a small town so all our firefighters are volunteers! A big THANK YOU to them for serving our community!! Also, our mom told us that our Great Uncle Charlie gave his life while fighting a fire. He was not even supposed to be on that night - but it was a cold night with blizzard conditions, and as Chief when he heard the call, he went in. He laid down his life for his neighbor. We thank God for him and firefighters every where!! M & D E.

Thank you, Dad, for your many years of faithful service to the fire company. Even at 80 years old your favorite place to hang out is the fire company. When we were little I remember how you were always ready to leave when there was a fire or accident. I didn't fully understand your dedication when I was young; I just knew our lives revolved around the fire alarm. Now I understand and I am so proud of you, Dad. Thank you for your faithfulness in keeping our town and our family safe.

I live in a small town where almost everyone who helps fight fires is a volunteer. This does not mean they aren't busy - they are! The regulars and the junior firefighters fight grass fires much of the year - they just got one the other day in 50mph winds and stopped it before it could get out of control. They come to accidents, home fires, boat fires, hay fires - all of the dangerous things I would not want to face. Plus, they are super welcoming to the children. My girls have gone on several tours of the station and these fire fighters are SO friendly and good at teaching safety without scaring them. They let the children climb in the trucks, they ride in the 4th of July parade, they host a chili dinner near Christmas. These people give so generously of their time and hearts - Thank you!
Many thanks to our hero!

Our house is right in between the two counties, so we are grateful that they all work together when an emergency arises. My father has been a fireman for over 50 years. As a boy, he would ride his bike to the station when there was a call. He has been the chief of that same station for over 30 years. After my mother died, Daddy would wake us up at night if there was a house fire. We would ride to the fire and sleep in the car while he helped the family. He had to bring us because we were too young to sleep at home by ourselves. It's so nice to see my own son playing with the equipment and wanting to be a firefighter some day!

My father graciously became the 1st Fire Chief of a newly formed volunteer FD in the rural area where I grew up. He was 62 years old. He retired from that position this year, 12 years later. He became an EMT, was always first on the scene, worked wrecks, fought fire, was incident commander, saw to it that all of his volunteers were trained as well as the municipal firefighters, grew the little FD into an efficient machine. His community's FD is one of only four or five fire departments in the state that are Certified EMS First Responder agencies, that are not affiliated with a municipality.
This past year was hard on him as the FD lost a firefighter due to responding to a fire. The whole department is like family and this has taken a toll on all of them, but duty calls.
My Daddy took his job very seriously and humbly worked tirelessly and selflessly for his community. He would say that it took all of them, and it did, but I am especially proud of my Daddy as well as all volunteer firefighters who put their lives on the line in their own spare time and sometimes give their lives.
This is a link to his fire department:
