Reach for the Stars Contest!

11:11 AM, Oct. 27, 2009

Check out the latest contest! Susan K. Marlow,  is offering the prize and it looks like something every homeschool should have!

Reach for the Stars is a 144-page workbook for budding young authors. It includes sections on creating your characters, how to "show, don't tell" their feelings, beginnings that "hook" the reader, creating scenes, plotting stories, and much more! Students can work at their own pace and on their own. Reach for the Stars also works great in home-school co-ops and in classrooms. Each concept is thoroughly modeled by the author, Susan K. Marlow, compiled from actual workshop lessons she has used with numerous young authors. Graphics make the workbook user-friendly for younger and older students alike. Includes a parent/teacher guide with hints for expanding the lessons, if desired. A must-have for anyone serious about teaching their children the elements of writing great fiction. Grades 3-8.

" . . . For a homeschool mom like me, who teaches boys who do not typically enjoy this kind of work, this workbook was a real blessing. It can be used for individual students or in a writing workshop in a group setting . . ."

-Amy Christy, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine, LLC

If you would like to download sample pages of Reach for the Stars, or look at an overview of the book, go here: http://www.susankmarlow.com/WritingWorkbook.html

Reach for the Stars is available in print form or as an E-book from the S.choolhouse Store.

~Your email address so that you can be contacted if you are a winner.

Our favorite character is Grandpa in Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. He loves his grandchildren very much and shows it by making them yummy Saturday morning pancakes, noticing little fun moments in their days (like falling pancakes) and then using them to create wonderful tall tales to tell them at bedtime. Bet he'd make a wonderful homeschool teacher! Judy---fjkreis@embarqmail.com

My kids' favorite character(s) are the four siblings in The Boxcar Children series. Their pragmatic, sensible approach to life provides my children countless conversation starters, like, "What would Benny say about...?" and "How do you think Jesse would handle...?" We are looking forward to more adventures with this foursome!

My twelve year old daughters favorite character is Ryan from the Left Behind for kids series. The reason: he is brave and daring, he cares about people, and he is the youngest.

My oldest daughter who is six loves the Disney Princess Series of books, and let me tell you we have a bunch to choose from. I like that all of them are written to teach a lesson and are a great jumping off base for helping teach them about character.

My youngest daughter who is four loves the Fancy Nancy books so much that we’ve left the house with her dressed up “just as fancy Nancy would”. So cute! This is a great contest and we would love to win, but we’ve also enjoyed reading over everyone's favorite characters. We’ve started a new list of books to get at the library from it. So, thank you!
