Thursday's Thoughts - How was your Valentine's Day?

1:34 AM, Feb. 16, 2006

Let's chat about your Valentine's Day.  Did someone bless you?  Did you get to bless someone else?

Tell us all about it!  It's time for us to catch up with each other on the Company Porch.

My Valentine's Day was a bit unusual this year because the two oldest boys and I were off with our homeschool group visiting the Kentucky Capitol while Hubby and the little one stayed home.  We don't usually get into gifts much, but Tony had a few things waiting for me when I got home - 12 white roses (my college sorority flower), a rose geranium candle (he knows I love scented candles), a new pair of pjs (homeschool mommy uniform), and 3 Snickers with Almonds (my new favorite candy bar!).

Isn't that sweet?  How about you?

The first five to comment will receive the "Featured on the Front Porch" button. To make it quicker for us to award you your button, we'd like to ask you to include your email in your comment in this format (so that it will not easily be grabbed up by those email-seeking programs) - yourname-at-yourserver.com ... or you can email me letting me know you commented (my email is below: just replace the -at- with the @ symbol!)

Romantic?

2:54 AM, Feb. 16, 2006, posted by
At 4 am on the 14th, our closet collapsed with a big bang that woke us both up. I thought it was the cat; he thought it was a kid. We both went back to sleep. It's one of those wire shelving systems and I guess it couldn't hold the weight of yo-yo dieting clothes, sports jackets from teams whose games we've never been to, suits from the 70s, and boxes of "I'll get to it later". So I spent Valentine's Day rebuilding a closet. Although it was time consuming, it wasn't all that difficult. It looks GREAT, and I was able to purge a lot of stuff. For less money than dinner for two *s*.

We don't usually celebrate Valentine's Day. dh says he's romantic all year long so why confine it to one day. I'm the one who forgets anniversaries and birthdays. Spending a lot of money on me for Valentine's Day is as effective as buying a double mocha latte with 2 shots and extra cream. To me, it's just coffee. ;-)

Home Repairs!

8:41 AM, Feb. 16, 2006, posted by LearningGlory
My husband is extremely talented in metal working, wood working, at just about anything he puts his mind to EXCEPT home repairs. Those are usually left to me to fix, patch, replace as needed. Well, our 2nd floor hotwater register was leaking water had to be shut off and was waiting repairs that were way out of my ability to fix. We live in Maine and no heat upstairs is a big deal! I thought for sure I was going to have to get a plumber/carpenter for the repairs.
My hubby is not always romantic but when he is, he wants to surprise me and the only way he coud get me out of the way was to repair the leak and make up some use for me in the basement to drain the pipes while he worked upstairs.
Long story short, later that evening I found in our room a huge stuffed, strawberry scented love-bug, a nice bottle of wine and a card that had me in stiches. And to top it all off, he proved he is quite able to do home repairs! :-)
Blessings from Maine!

We spent Valentine's Day in the Outpatient Surgery Center where our Rosie was having a procedure to remove ingrown toenails from both of her big toes. Romantic? Nah... *Chuckle*

No room at the restaurant

5:46 PM, Feb. 17, 2006, posted by mamatc
Well, my DH Asa wanted to take his new beautiful bride(that's what he calls me) out to a nice dinner. Not Arby's or even Applebee's- we're talking a NICE place to eat! So, recently a lot of area restaurants have gone to a 'no reservation' policy. First come, first served. No problem-we left early--or did we? We drive up to the restaurant and as we get closer, we realize that even though it was a holiday it's a weekday and it may not be that long of a wait. Well, 1-2 hrs waiting with someones armpits in my nose is not my idea of romance-no matter HOW good the food is-and I like food. So, we head for the next restaurant-not as fancy, but it'll do-3 hrs! And so on and so forth until finally we were sick of driving around and each place we came to DECREASED in fanciness(and cleanliness). We finally came upon a place called Chipotle. We had heard of it and good things about it, but we had never actually tried it. It wasn't as busy and we were hungry so it was a perfect match. Instead of Tchaikovsky and wine we had 80's remixes and burritos. Well, the burritos were awsome and it's fun to play 'remember this song' every once in a while. After that we went home and snuggled on the couch w/my DD12-Kayla, watched some of the Olympics and called it a night. I also got a card, a cd and a dozen roses when Asa came home. Plus, for the first time in over 8 years I didn't have to sleep alone on the national day of Love! I'll take it! Traci :)

My 12 year old daughter Sarah, made me breakfast in bed. She made her very first pancakes. Although she has watched me make them many times, she has never made them herself. But, she prayed and asked God to help her do a good job, and God honored her prayer. Her pancakes were delicious. But, the most touching part for me was knowing that my daughter turns to her Heavenly Father for help when she needs it.
Blessings to you all.

My Valentine Surprise~

2:12 AM, Feb. 18, 2006, posted by
I planned a special Valentine for my family too. I usually do not do this... usually dh just buys me something. This year I wanted to be different. The day before the children and I made Valentine pockets.... and on Valentines Day there was a treat waiting (pencil, candy) and we made sugar cookies. YUM We went to the park with some home schooling friends. That night dh and I planned to go out to dinner... I had worked out with my oldest dd to take the children to son's basketball practice! The house would be empty for about 2 hrs. My dd was going to leave candles burning. Heres the hitch I took the keys that dd needed... so our plans went gapooey.... so we decided dh and I to go to Lowes and Walmart and shop! Go Figure.... we bought bird feeders, little rakes for the little ones (pic on my blog) and had a great time. We arrived home LATE.... dd had everyone asleep and candles were lit! What a special treat~ of course dh loved it!
hope this wasn't toooooooo long~
blessings,

Heavenly Valentine

8:38 PM, Feb. 18, 2006, posted by im4given
We lost a dear friend Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Our Valentine's Day was spent at the doctor's office with my mom and later shopping for food for the funeral dinner. Much prayer was offered to hold up my dear friend. The day of the funeral my dear friend stood and paid tribute to her husband. He was now spending this Valentine's day with our dear Heavenly Father. Although each Valentine day and every day is special with those we love it sure made me think about love between a husband and wife. They were married 51 yrs. I pray each of you had a wonderful time with or without the fancy things of Valentine's Day. The love and beauty are not that of gifts but of the love for each other. God Bless you sweetly~~deb
