Blogger of the Week Charlotte Mason Mama
Rebecca Ruiz describes Homeschoolblogger.com this way,
I think if it as a subdivision full of homeschoolers and each blog is an individual home.
It is true, and Rebecca’s blog Charlotte Mason Mama is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. When you stop by Rebecca’s blog it is like visiting the neighbor who greets you with a cheerful smile and a useful tidbit of information. Her writing is energetic, upbeat, and witty. She’s a great stop if you need a quick pick me up to keep you going in your homeschool journey.
Rebecca actually maintains two blogs. She started her first blog Mrs. Happy Housewife as a way to stand up and say
"I am a housewife and I’m happy and proud of my role in my family and in society."
Her blog Charlotte Mason Mama here at homeschoolblogger.com is named for her love of the Charlotte Mason style of learning.
We started homeschooling five years ago. I looked at unit studies, classical education, the Well-Trained Mind, Lifepacs – you name it. Nothing seemed the proper fit until I discovered Charlotte Mason. Her love of literature, nature, history, and the arts was something I could really identify with.
Rebecca was homeschooled herself for a short time in sixth grade. It was not a pleasant experience and she was glad to return to school. But now, Rebecca loves to learn right along with her two children, Elizabeth (10), and David (7).
I thought is could never get any better than the day my aughter read her first word. Then, my son wrote his name and I thought that must be the best moment ever. Truly, every second of very day is the best. I am lucky enough to witness each milestone.
Along with homeschooling and blogging, Rebecca has started an internet business at Café Press. She decided to design a few shirts for women who want to celebrate being a wife and mother.
The Cafe Press shop started because of Spunky. I saw her link to Jollyblogger's "I think therefore I blog" t-shirt and I thought the shirt needed to be more feminine. Pink is the new black, you know. So, I created a pink "I think, therefore I blog" shirt. I also wanted to promote housewives so I came up with two more designs. One has the cover girl of an Edwardian magazine called "The Housewife" and the other is in response to the current obsession with a certain show on ABC. My t-shirt says, "Housewife? Yes. Desperate? Never!"
Rebecca has her ups and downs just like all homeschooling mothers. But as always Rebecca's attitude is upbeat,
A bad day with my family is better than a good day in the business world.
A great attitude from a great blogger. Please, take a few minutes to stop by and visit Charlotte Mason Mama and congratulate her on being blogger of the week.
