Posted 3:16 PM, Nov. 12, 2007

What a great sponsor to finish off the year! I know that we are all getting ready to enjoy the holiday season and also looking ahead to next year and finishing up your school year. Well, The Busy Body Book is an item you should look into if you are in need of some help organizing your day!  Our two lucky bloggers chosen this week by Tia will each receive a copy of The Busy Body Book.

Look inside The Busy Body book here.

Here is some information about The Busy Body Book from the website,

"With BusyBodyBook, the time management tool for Mom and her very busy family, each family member has their own column to plan and track their schedules and activities while coordinating with each other side by side.

Easily view overlapping schedules and avoid doublebooking with the BBB family calendar. Find perfect time slots for important family time!

And, BusyBodyBook Organizer is versatile. Use spare columns for babysitter instructions, meal planning, holiday or vacation preparations, home renovation scheduling.

Or,
make use of an additional BusyBodyBook planner to manage your home business, or personal goals, - a separate BBB for your children to track their 5 school subjects. "

This WONDERFUL organizing item retails for $16.95 ... what a great price (see samples here).   This item can also be purchased for fundraising purposes - more details here. If you are needing last minute ideas for someone who needs to buy YOU a present and you also need some help organizing your day, then The Body Book may be just what you are looking for!

Or maybe you have a larger family and need more space to write out all of your commitments ... then you should consider the Fridge Grid Pad. This has 7 columns - you can use the extra columns to mark your dinner plans, chore list ... whatever! This retails $11.95 ... a true bargain in my book!

Well, that finishes off our Featured Sponsors for 2007. I hope that you have enjoyed getting to meet some new online sites! Hopefully, you have found some items you can't live without!

Featured Sponsor - "Across the Wide River" offered by Kregel Publications

Posted 8:18 PM, Oct. 21, 2007

We have a wonderful book published by Kregel Publications to give away this week. Tia, our tireless, hardworking Front Porch editor, will choose two lucky people to win this item.  Many thanks to Amy Stephansen for sharing this item with our bloggers.

Across the Wide River by Stephanie Reed

The red brick home of Rev. John Rankin is a beacon—the first northern stop on the Underground Railroad. Across the Ohio River in Kentucky, every slave knows to look for it. They have heard that if they reach that house, they will never be captured. Across the Wide River tells the true story of the selfless sacrifices one Christian family made to help runaway slaves reach freedom.

About the Author: During her childhood, Stephanie Reed's family would often pass through Ripley on their way to her grandparents' home. The signs she read there about the Rankin house were what prompted her to write this story. After working for nearly a decade with the Dayton Metro Library, Stephanie is currently a volunteer spotter for the National Weather Service. She lives with her husband and two children in Dublin, Ohio.

Featured Sponsor - Tamy Davis of Growing with Grammar!

Posted 7:08 PM, Sep. 30, 2007

Our lucky Featured and Random bloggers chosen this week will receive their choice of Growing With Grammar programs - 1 & 2, 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Let's meet the author ... "My name is Tamela Davis, and I am a homeschooling mother of two.  For several years, I have been aware that homeschoolers around the world are in need of a thorough grammar program that can be used by all educators regardless of their background or beliefs.  My husband and I began Growing With Grammar to fill that need in the homeschool community.

We have designed this thorough program to be user-friendly for both teacher and student by separating the subject matter into two books, the Student Manual and the Student Workbook (which includes a separate Answer Key).  The Student Manual contains the learning portion of the subject matter, and the Student Workbook contains the hands-on portion, which reinforces the lessons taught in the Student Manual.   If desired, independent learners can work alone by utilizing the Student Manual and Student Workbook, since the Answer Key is separate.  To support each concept learned in the Student Manual, there is a corresponding workbook lesson.  Review questions are integrated within each workbook lesson to constantly provide reinforcement of previous lessons learned.  In addition, there are separate review lessons at the end of each chapter.  Also, we have chosen to bind the books with spiral bindings to ensure that the books lie flat when open.  The spiral binding on the Student Workbook is at the top to provide equal unobstructed access for right- and left-handed students."

I have seen both years of this program and have reviewed them, too (Grade 3 review and Grade 4 review). To read reviews by other users, please visit the Growing with Grammar website.

Grades 1& 2, 3, 4 and 5 are currently available for purchase! According to their website, "Next in line for publication will be a Student Manual and Student Workbook for Grade 6, which will available in time for the 2008 school year.  Please click here and send us an e-mail if you would like to be placed on our e-mail notification list for new product availability."

If you are looking for an easy-to-use grammar curriculum, then take a look at Growing with Grammar. My son is using the program this year and things are going very well. He can just grab the book and do the next lesson on his own without complaint - LOL!

Featured Sponsor - Loretta Hayward of Garden Gate Cards

Posted 1:48 PM, Sep. 9, 2007

If you haven't seen these notecards before, then you are in for a treat! Garden Gate Cards, owned by Loretta Hayward, offers the cutest pictures of rabbits in various settings and seasons. Our two lucky bloggers, chosen by Tia (to choose our winners, I guess Tia will just pull a couple of bunnies out of a hat - LOL!), will get to choose their gift from the following choices:

** GARDEN GATE NOTE CARDS **

A boxed set of Garden Gate’s beautiful note cards. The Rabbit Park  set has a 10 card variety of Garden Gate's rabbits  dressed as sailors, pilots and in other amusing poses .  These note cards are great inspiration for writers of all ages. Garden Gate note cards are incentives for using various writing  skills to send messages of cheer, important news, as well as loving wishes and words from the heart All of Garden Gate's note card pictures feature real roses, ivy, and gardens along with adorable bunnies posing in heirloom stitched pinafores, aprons, bonnets, made especially for them! All of Garden Gate products are made here in South Carolina!  Garden Gate Cards are perfect for any age and any occasion!

Here is a bit about the cards from Loretta, "Here at the Garden Gate Rabbit Park in South Carolina, USA, our family raises prize winning rabbits. Our rabbits have pedigrees too!( Imagine that!) We got the idea of placing the rabbits in some very interesting settings; but photographing rabbits can be quite a challenge especially when  the neighbor’s dog comes over for a visit, or a clumsy skink drops in from the tree branch over head!  We never know when the flower garden “setting” is going to become rabbit lunch. The more pictures that we take the more we have noticed that our flowers seem to disappear! You can now see the results of our work in Garden Gate Cards. We have a variety of beautiful, note cards featuring our adorable bunnies!"

I personally have two sets of these cards  and they are larger than most, measuring 5 x 7, which gives me lots of room to write a note to a friend. To view the adorable bunnies featured in these cards, click here. Are you like me and never have a blank card handy for those last-minute gifts you need to give? These cards are perfect to attach to presents or mail to someone needing a mood boost! Or maybe you  sometimes need to give a quick gift in a jiffy ... well, head on over to Garden Gate Cards and buy several boxes of these cards to have on hand for last-minute gift-giving.

.... or a copy of their new book ....

** ON THE BANKS OF DURBIN CREEK **

Text on back cover:

On the banks of Durbin Creek, it is bedtime for the bunnies at Garden Gate Rabbit Park!  This is one unique book with bunny tales that will spark the imagination and delight the senses. While our real rabbits are telling the story, real surprises and enjoyment are in store for the whole family! The amazing and amusing color photographs by Loretta Hayward are exceptional illustrations for all of the poems, verse, and stories that will be enjoyed by everyone.  Garden Gate bunnies will also be an educational benefit to younger children as they learn several reading readiness skills throughout this remarkable book! 36 pages in full color.

Featured Sponsor - Robin Koury & Answers for New Christians

Posted 3:53 PM, Sep. 2, 2007

Our sponsor for this week is Robin Koury who has written Answers for New Christians. Tia, HSB's hard-working Sr. Editor, will choose two lucky bloggers who will each receive a copy of this book. Here is the story behind how the book came to be.

The Answers For New Christians Story
by Miss Robin

Don't you just hate it when you are reading something to a child and their eyes glaze over?  That's what kept happening to me as I tried to disciple the New Christian kids at my church.  So I switched curriculum. Again and again. One was too preachy.  Another had tiny print.  Still another, doctrinally incorrect.  What could I do?

Finally in a fit of frustration one Sunday night, I laid my storebought book aside and started telling the Bible story to my student.  I drew little stick figures and rough pictures. I even invented a little buddy, Bic, the Baby Christian.  Bic's name is an acronym for Babe in Christ.  My student was delighted and I was too!

That was only the beginning. Under the direction of my Children's Minister (the late Connie Record) and my Pastor, Dr. Anthony Jordan, I kept teaching and refining the material.  In 1998 I founded Little Light Press and published the first print run of Answers For New Christians.

Today Answers is in its second printing (the new Keepsake Edition).  I thank God that Answers For New Christians is a helpful resource for parents and ministry leaders all over the U.S.

This book retails for $14.95 and can be purchased at the Salvation Kids website.  You can look inside the book, too!  I'll see you again next week with a new sponsor ... I wonder who it will be?

Remember, the book is not consumable, it is reuseable.  The WallCharts are also reuseable.  Unless you have many children who will be taught the same information simultaneously, you might not need additional copies of the student edition.

The Five Finger Essay©Kit gives students:

    • A more solid basis for organizing the five paragraph essay.

    • Ancillary Materials (WallCharts to be used in writing practice, bookmarkers and Quick Guide Cards ) that help reinforce what's being taught.

    • Illustrations that provide visual learners with the inspiration needed to:

      • see how to learn the information.

      • see what they need to remember and to take into the testing situation.

    • Numerous opportunities to "look it up in the dictionary," words they will probably see on the test.  This activity will help them expand their vocabulary.

    • Bonus Parents' Edition that will give parents a "helping hand" if they feel the need to help their student.  Lesson plans included along with helpful hints.

    • Helpful hints for test day.

What a great sponsor to start off the new homeschooling year! I know that many of us will be starting back to school this month. Well, The Busy Body Book is an item you should look into if you are in need of some help organizing your day!  Our two lucky bloggers chosen this week by Tia, our dutiful Porch editor,  will each receive a copy of The Busy Body Book.
