TOS is in the MAIL!
Posted 2:54 AM, May. 6, 2008

Spring is finally here! How do I know? I had to open my car window today while driving to let a bug out and the Spring 2008 TOS Magazine is in the MAIL! I don't know why anyone relies on large, bucktoothed rodents to tell them when Spring will get here. It's so much nicer to to just subscribe to The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and when your magazine is at your door then you know the season has officially changed. TOS has even gone digital! So if you don't like magazines piling up on your coffee table or you live in a house the size of a pumpkin, digital is the way for you to go.
Wanna see a sneak peak of what's inside this issue? You can find out about homeschooling in Brazil and Pakistan, read some beautiful tributes to moms and dads, find out about butterflys and nuclear energy, get a better understanding about preschool, and other superb articles by Dr. Ruth Beechick, Amelia Harper, Debora Wuehler, Dena Wood, and MORE!
I just love how TOS just gets better and better with every issue. It's true! You'll see what I mean in just another week or so. Better lay in a stock of your favorite cool drink and easy lunches for the children because you will have your nose stuck in this issue!

Digital Magazine FAQs:
- Is this the Teacher's Toolbox that you all sent out an email about last week?
No, the Teacher's Toolbox is the subscribers-only newsletter that will come out each month. The digital magazine is another way that readers can subscribe and receive the full content of our magazine, just in a dynamic online format!
- Do digital subscribers qualify for the Teacher's Toolbox too?
Yes, both print & digital subscribers qualify.
- Do print subscribers automatically get the digital edition?
No, digital subscriptions need to be purchased separately, and now is the best time since they are only $10.95 and you get five free gifts!
- If I have a print subscription, will my digital subscription just start when my print subscription expires?
No, digital subscriptions begin immediately with the current Winter issue. But again, if you're interested in the digital, NOW is the time to subscribe. You might find that you like having both!
- Will I be able to see the digital magazine if I have a slow dial-up connection?
Yes, you should be able to. One reader who has a 28 kbps connection said that it worked just fine for her. The best way to tell though is to view the sample above. Just click on the graphic!
- Will the digital magazine work with Macs too?
Yes, the digital magazine is in published web format so if you can get online, you can view the magazine.
- Do I have to be online to view the magazine?
You do have the option to download the magazine on to your computer. It is a very large file though so you might want to test how it works on your computer using the sample above as well.
- Is the digital magazine more expensive for international subscribers?
No, it's one price no matter where you are! This makes it an especially great savings for our international readers.
- How will I get the five bonus gifts with my digital subscription?
After your order is completed, you'll be taken to a Thank You page. You can click on the link there to go to the bonus download page. If you inadvertently navigate away from it, you can get back to it by logging in to your account again in the Schoolhouse Store.
- How will I actually get my digital magazine?
As soon as you complete your purchase online, you will receive an email with the link to your first issue. The first issue will also have the Summer & Fall '07 archives available in the toolbar as well. After that, you will receive an email each quarter with the link to the new issue as long as you are a digital subscriber.

Looking for Fresh Inspiration for the New Year?
At The Old Schoolhouse we know that there is more than one right way to homeschool. We believe that each family has to figure out what method and educational philosophy "fits" their family best. Some parents may be juggling work responsibilities and homeschooling. Others are homeschooling as single parents. Some have special needs children, while others are still learning the basics of home education. In all of our products, we strive to present a variety of authors and resources which will inspire and encourage you as you tailor your homeschool to your family's needs.
And now for seven days only, we're putting all of our TOS e-Books and audio books on sale for 50% off. Plus our back issues normally priced at $9.90 are 50% off too.
If you've never bought an e-Book before, now is a great time to try one!
Each one is under $7 and you'll be able to download them immediately after checkout.
Secrets of Successful Homeschooling covers everything from the questions you should ask to help you determine your philosophy of education to how to make your homeschool more fun and a natural part of your day-to-day life.
Have you crossed the line into high school? Homeschooling the High Schooler: from Transcripts to Graduation has suggestions for reaching your child's heart, teaching the higher level subjects, converting extracurricular activities into credit courses, and much more.
Want to read some of the all time favorite TOS interviews with pioneers and leaders in the home education movement? You'll find these interviews and many more in Homeschool Dialogues.
Would you rather listen to these as audio books? It's a wonderful way to be encouraged as you're driving in the car, working or relaxing around the house. Each is under $9 and at these prices you can buy one for a friend who needs some encouragement too!
Do you struggle with trying to find the balance between academics and home life? Does relaxed homeschooling sound good to you, but you wonder if it's really as thorough as public school? Gena Suarez's Well Integrated Homeschool audio presentation reveals the problems with public education and the blessings of a natural integration of learning at home.
We're sure you'll enjoy each of these resources and all of the great information in our back issues of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. Don't forget them!
Our regularly priced $9.90 back issues are all less than $5 for this sale - and the shipping is free. We'll send them right out to you. You'll find words of encouragement from your favorite writers, unit studies, information on the various teaching styles, plenty of homeschool research, and so much more.
Just take a look at the FANTASTIC prices on e-Books, audio books, and back issues and bring some fresh inspiration into your homeschool this year!
|
Sale Ends midnight Sunday, January 27. International customers please note, due to high international shipping costs, audio books are only available for US customers and back issues require a shipping upgrade. |

Minute to Minute Reader Needs Your Help!
Posted 2:14 PM, Sep. 18, 2007
How many of you know about one of TOS's weekly e-newsletters called Minute to Minute? (Scroll down to the second e-newsletter description. Go ahead subscribe!)
Minute to Minute is unique because each e-newsletter is made up of one of your questions one week and then the answers to that question from other readers the following week. This e-newsletter has had a fantastic response rate!
However, not every letter is one that most of the readers can relate to, therefore less feedback. Last week's Minute to Minute was a question week and we are looking for more help for our homeschooling friend whose child in chronically ill. Take a look:
Dear Homeschool Moms,
I would really like to find out if there are any resources out there for moms who are home educating chronically ill children. Do you know of anything? My child does not have any mental disability or physical disability. He has a chronic illness that can and often does effect his ability to complete school work (he is suffering from side effects of his medicine that make him tired and cranky or cause him to feel achy). I have a few friends who are also dealing with this issue but have the added mental disability so that is different from what I am going through. Thank you for your time.
A Homeschool Mom
As you can see this mom could really use some tips and support! Do any of you homeschool chronically ill children? What about your friend or that lady in your support group? Please pass this on to anyone who may be able to help!
Here's the deal though, we need responses ASAP! Please e-mail Elisabeth by Sept. 20th. By e-mailing you agree to have your response printed in Minute to Minute.
Thank you for your help!
Earn Money with Your Blog and Button Alert
Posted 1:07 AM, Sep. 13, 2007
Do you have a button inviting people to subscribe to TOS and receive 19 free gifts on your blog? Well it's time to change it!
TOS has an even better offer now - Buy a one-year subscription for $25 and receive 25 free gifts! And we have some pretty new banners and buttons that you all can use. Just pick which fits your blog the best! Need help getting a button on your blog? Read this entry.
Now, you want to know how you can earn money with your blog?
It's quick and easy and if someone clicks through your banner to buy a subscription, you earn a percentage of the sale! You can even earn money on other items they buy through the Schoolhouse Store. It's really a great deal.
Your Voice ~ Reaaders Helping Readers
Posted 1:56 AM, Jun. 27, 2007
The Old Schoolhouse Magazine desires to hear your take on a variety of subjects for the purpose of bringing education, encouragement and support to our magazine/website readers. Each issue, a question will be posed, and we desire for those in the homeschool community to answer it, if they are so led.
By filling out this form, you agree that your name, city and state shall appear with your advice message in our magazine and website (should it be selected from those who participate). Please consider this issue's question, below.
| Question:
"Can you offer any solutions for my husband and me, who are expecting our first child and plan on homeschooling? We travel and minister internationally and sometimes have assignments for one year at a time in a different country. We are in Florida in the US now, and I am currently teaching as a public school elementary teacher in addition to our normal ministerial responsibilities."

| Dear Nancy, |
|
When you finish homeschooling your youngest child you may think that your teaching days are over. However several women have found themselves staring across the table at their grandchildren while waiting for them to work out a math problem.
These grandparents aren't helping with homework or tutoring their grandchild in a weak area, they are homeschooling them. For one reason or another they have taken on the responsibility of their grandchild's education.
Liz is one such grandmother and she has a lot of questions! Partly because she's curious but mainly because she would like to give and receive support with other homeschooling grandparents.

| Are there any other grandparents homeschooling their grandchildren? |
|
I am a homeschooling grandmother. I homeschooled my own children K-12 (The youngest just graduated college) and I just finished my 2nd year with my grandson. I would like to know:
- How many other homeschooling grandmothers there are at HSB?
- Why are they homeschooling their grandchildren?
- Did they homeschool their own children?
- Are their grandchildren living with them?
- How do they keep the parent/parents involved in the schooling process or do they even try?
- What kind of schedule do they keep?
- Is it easier or harder this time around?
- Are any of them also still homeschooling some of their own?
- How is it different, better or worse, than homeschooling your own?
- Do they feel like they "fit in" with the younger homeschooling mothers?
- Do they think they will follow through to graduation?
- Do they regret not having their "retirement" years?
- Do they have a plan if they could not continue?
- Would they recommend it to others that are considering it?
Thank you,
Liz
