An Introduction and Sign-Up

Posted in Literary Club Announcements

Hello, anybody out there?

I feel like I'm standing at a mic in a bright light, and I just can't see anyone, not even in the front row.  We have had several orders come in for next read, The Hedge of Thorns, but not too many of you have let me know you will be joining us. So, who's in? Oh, I see Sylvia out there... Did you get your copy of this little treasure, Sylvia?

Let Me Introduce Myself

Maybe you just don't know me; Let me introduce myself. I promise I won't bite. I am Jacque Dixon. I blog here regularly at Seeking Rest in the Ancient Paths. Matt and I have been homeschooling our children basically since Amanda was born. That was 8 children ago. We are now living in a small town in IN on a little farm, raising them and their animals, which at this time includes horses, goats, chickens and a couple of dogs... you know, homeschooling.

I also love to read books, though I rarely find the time to do it other than the usual Homeschool Teacher's Resource manual - Do I need to get out more? The last time I read a fiction book was.... oh yes, when we read The Hobbit together as a family a few years ago. That was fabulous fun! I think I may be enjoying this little treaure by myself to start, tho, then reading it to our Littles. Our oldest daughters: 18, 16 and 14, can read along with all of us though!

And Amanda, too

You probably already know Amanda. She is my bright, insightful 18- year-old daughter. I will give you my little intro, but I am going to let her introduce herself then too. She is a bright star in my crown. I do not take the credit for what a lovely young lady she is becoming, but I  am blessed by her. She is in her last year of high school and an incredible young woman in her own right. She is thoughtful, witty and kind. She loves to read - and has more time to than I do.

She read Ishmael, the first HSB LitClub book in 1 day. She loved it. She loves classical books, so I have a feeling you will definitely be hearing a lot more from her once we get started on The Hedge of Thorns!

Get Yours and Join Us!

Speaking of which, have you received your copy of  The Hedge of Thorns yet? I got mine just this last week.  I sat down a couple of times to look through it.  My copy is from Lamplighter, through The Old Schoolhouse Store. It is really a pretty book. It is hardcover, and I look forward to having it and sharing it with our children and grandchildren through the years.

You will notice that The Hedge of Thorns is not the 350-500-page book that Ishmael and Self-Raised are. This means that we will be getting through this one in just a couple of weeks. I will have an exact starting date for you soon, and we will get you the next title to order soon thereafter.

If you are planning to join us, let's try something new. Please sign your name to Mr. Linky below, and leave a comment if you like. It is not a requirement, but it will be a quick at-a-glance for everyone to see who all is joining us.  And, like I said, I don't bite; I promise.

Blessings!

My church gives Lamplighter books as gifts for Mother's Day. So I already have this book but haven't read it yet. This will be great incentive.

Friday, November 9, 2007 - Am I too Late to join????

Posted by srostollan

I have been watching to see what was coming up and missed it!! Am I too late? How does this work? Do I just read and then comment or do I read along in assignments? I got this book over the summer at a homeschool conference that Lamplighter was at. I read half of it and stopped because I decided I wanted to read it with the children. I am ready to read it again!!!

Yey I'm in!.....but I don't have my book yet. Looking forward to getting started when you say go. It sounds like a heart felt scripture fearing book in which the book of Hosea will hold a special rememberance in my heart.

It is rather late for me to be signing in, but I've just now taken the time to catch up in many areas of my life.

I have this amazing little book and am reading along. I've enjoyed the discussions too...so many insightful comments and observations!

I hope to be participating in the discussion very soon.

Thanks and God Bless,
Laurie

Welcome

Welcome to HSB Literary Club. Please join us in reading Enoch Roden's Training by Hesba Stretton. As Enoch's faith is tested, will he prove that his is no mere profession, but a real, living confidence in God's love and wisdom? Through severe trials, Enoch learns much about sound business principles, sacrifice, and trusting God. If he had only said, "I am working with God…" he would never have found the work wearisome, for of all grand, and comforting, and heart-refreshing thoughts in this world, to a Christian, the greatest is the thought that we are co-workers with God. Without a doubt, after reading this book, you'll walk away a better person than when you began. To get started, click on the book icon and get yours ordered today!
