Reading Programs
Milwaukee Public Library Summer Reading Club: Begins June 1. There are reading programs for children of all ages designed to be a fun, easy way to keep kids reading throughout the summer. Summer 2004 theme: Discover New Trails @ Your Library. Plus other Free Summer Programs: There's more than just reading at the library. Children are invited to attend more than a hundred free programs at all Milwaukee Public Libraries. They'll hear fabulous stories, pet live animals, plant beautiful flowers, enjoy Harry Potter programs, and see amazing magic all summer long. Get more information online or at your local branch.
Half Price Books: Half Pint Reading Program. This Summer Reading Program is for students K-6 and is designed to encourage them to continue reading throughout the summer break. The program runs from June 1-July 31 and is open to all children in those grades. To enter, they may pick up an application/reading log at any Half Price Books beginning June 1 or they may download it from www.halfpricebooks.com/summer_reading
When the student reads a total of 15 hours and mails in the reading log, he or she will receive a $5.00 reward gift card. All entries must be postmarked no later than July 31.

Reading Recognition Program: This free program from Rocky Rococo's encourages students to read. Each student is given a Reading Recognition Card. After a child reads a book, the teacher gives the student a sticker to attach to their Rocky Rococo Reading Recognition Card. After earning stickers, students can obtain free food prizes by taking their card to the nearest participating Rocky Rococo Restaurant. Incentives for Grades
Chuck E Cheese: Tokens for grades- up to a 15 token maximum, kids can receive 3 tokens for each "A", 2 tokens for each "B" and 1 token for each "C" on their report card.
Blockbuster rewards students for hard work in school by giving free rentals for good grades. Students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade who have an A or B average on their report card can present the report card at their neighborhood Blockbuster store to receive one free Blockbuster Favorite rental.
Krispy Kreme has several programs in place for students and schools:
Good Grades Program: Applicable for grades K-6, a student may receive an original Glazed Doughnut for every ''A'' or equivalent of such; if a different grading system is used. There is a limit of six doughnuts per grading period.
Stick With It Kids: This program was to aid teachers in reaching their classroom goals. The teachers can pick up their posters and stickers at a participating Krispy Kreme. As each student reaches his or her goal the student gets to write their name on a success sprinkle and decorate the poster as a '' stick with it kid''. When the classroom has reached their goal the teacher must take the completed poster to a participating Krispy Kreme and redeem it for two dozen original glazed doughnuts as a free treat for the class. There is a limit of one poster per teacher per school year.
Field Trips: Teachers can bring their students to their local Krispy Kreme store and experience the Krispy Kreme story. Our field trip programs are not only fun but they are also a great learning experience.

Cope Services
Located in Southeastern Wisconsin, COPE provides crisis intervention, information and referral services to Ozaukee County and the Greater Milwaukee area. Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services
In total, approximately 360 volunteers annually offer their services in the following areas: tutoring, fundraising, establishing / maintaining functional computers, assisting with clerical/maintenance tasks, and providing professional and legal services.
Volunteers are needed in all areas, especially tutoring.
Volunteers willing to become tutors of adult learners are asked to make a minimum commitment of two hours per week for six months.
Free training is provided on a flexible training schedule.

My Home, Your Home, Inc. (MHYH) is a non-profit Social Services agency founded by Irma and Aubrey Walker. In 1993, MHYH opened its first receiving home doors with a mission to keep siblings together while in transition to out-of-home care.
The Open Gate
The Open Gate is Milwaukee's first transitional living center for the homeless. Since 1986, the social service agency has helped hundreds of men, women and children find their way back to a home and society. The organization works exclusively with the underprivileged and disadvantaged, of which two thirds are indigent. And they're the only Transitional Living Center that accepts clients without an income.
We're usually in need of volunteers in some capacity, such as organizing special events, soliciting donors, grant research, marketing communications (website, brochure, etc.), office administration, etc. If you have a particular skill that you think will benefit our organization, please give us a call.
The Open Gate is always in need of personal and household items for their residents. Once the residents move out of the program, they need these items in order to start their new self-sufficient lives. Milwaukee Rescue MissionThe individuals MRM serves must address often-heartbreaking needs, generally in academic, relational, and vocational areas. MRM offers life-change opportunities through 3 program outreaches:
Safe Harbor, an outreach to homeless men,
Joy House, for homeless women and their children, and
CrossTrainers, an outreach to inner city youth.
Holiday Needs: Beginning in November and continuing through December, MRM uses volunteers to help with a variety of holiday preparations including wrapping gifts and decorating Christmas trees. Volunteers are scheduled in 2-3 hour time blocks Monday - Thursday between 9am and 3pm.
Our meal service lifts heavy hearts and helps change lives! We welcome help from individuals or groups in preparing and serving lunch or supper.
Put that knack for organizing to good use and help sort donated items for our clothing room!
Our children need you! Develop a meaningful relationship with a child, either in our Joy House homeless shelter or our CrossTrainers tutoring programs.
Are you a skilled or semi-skilled tradesperson? We can use your help with general building maintenance.

The Wisconsin Humane Society has several volunteer opportunities available, and a variety of ways you can make a difference in the lives of many animals. Our program has three different areas, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Domestic Animal Program, and General Opportunities that help all animals.
Volunteers as young as 13 years old may volunteer by themselves in our Orphaned Bird Care program that takes place during the spring and summer months. The Wisconsin Humane Society gears each volunteer position to the appropriate aged volunteers. For some positions, young people may volunteer with an adult.
