Apr. 29, 2006 - Super Size Me
Dad gummit! I just lost a whole entry!!!!
ARRRGGHHH!!
Okay, I will try to touch on the highlights as I have other things to do today. I recieved an honorable mention on Gena's blog for my most embarrassing moments ever. If you would like to read more about it, surf on over. It is not for the faint of heart though. Sadly, I did not win the contest, so I am taking up a collection to support me See's Candy addiction. Perhaps after you read it, you will feel compelled to contribute.
Hubby and I watched SuperSize Me last night. It is a documentary/brain-child of independent film-maker Morgan Spurlock. After two teens tried to sue McDonalds for their obesity problems, he had the idea to eat only McDonalds food for a month and watch how it affected his health and well-being. It was VERY compelling. My husband and I are considering seeing if **ClearPlay has a filter for it and showing it to our children. I would recommend it for an eye-opening look at the fast food industry.
I have been teetering on the whole foods edge for a long time, this film was fuel for the fire. I think today, for an adult field trip, I am going to the local WholeFoods Market and see if our wallet can handle switching to free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic/growth hormone free beef, chicken and pork. The sticker shock may kill me, but one of the statement that I have been thinking about all morning was made my the author of the book FastFood Nation, "These food are inexpensive on the menu, but they are really very costly in the long run because of the long term affects on our health."
***ClearPlay is a wonderful way to watch movies. It is a DVD player with advanced technology that allows you to filter content specific to the title you are watching. If this makes no sense to you, check out the website. We LOVE ours!!!

We do as much healthy, non chemical, non hormone, free range eating as we can...If you have a Wild Oats or a Trader Joe's near you they are both much cheaper than Whole Foods. Just thought you might like to know.

Let me suggest that if you have a Whole Foods Market in your town then you will most likely have some food buying clubs around as well, which can save you some money on many things as well as get you connected to like minded people. Through my club I have found $1 free range organic brown eggs and $2 raw milk. You can check out http://www.unitedbuyingclubs.com/RESOURCES/FABC/FABC_Home.htm to see if you can join a club in your area.
It has long been my belief that when we eat the foods God gave us the way He intended, then we will be on the right track. Though because of our sin fallen world, nothing can ever be as good as he intended.
I have some great resources I can share with you. If you are interested, then send me a note.
