Building in progress..

Well, as some of you know we are b uilding onto our house (well, we're enclosing the carport) to make a new living room.  We have all the sheetrock up now, just waiting for them to mud it and texture it.  Then we'll be almost done.  Hook the electricity up, paint the walls, lay the flooring... and YAY!

I've been watching a gazillion decorating shows, looking for things online, etc.  I'm definitely not good at interior decorating, and just hope my ideas turn out ok.  LOL

OREGON OR BUST!

HOWDY PARDNERS!!!

Well, it looks like the right time to begin thinkin' 'bout our journey west.  I hear the wagon train is gearin' up and headin out in about a weeks time.  I shore wanna be on it!  It's gonna be right excitin', thats fer sure!   We gots lots of things to do still.  I am travelling with my brother Levi and his family.  They're good God fearin' people, who are just looking for a better way of life.  Since I lost my beloved Burke a year ago, I have nothing to stay here for.  Levi is all the family I have now, and I can't bear the thought of being seperated from him.  My teaching position is already being filled by Miss Savannah.  She'll do well.  The kids will love her.  My excitement grows daily, and while I know the dangers are numerous, I keep my peace in my Lord.

In case you haven't noticed, we'll be travelling to the Oregon Trail for about 6 weeks.  Cyberbee.com has a great unit on it, that we've already started preparing for. (www.cyberbee.com/wwho )  Check it out and register with us!  We are all excited about the journey ahead.  My family will be splitting up into 2 families to travel.  We have our map up, and our covered wagons at the beginning of the trail.  My older 2 boys (who are 9 and 7) will be keeping journals of their trip along the way, and made their first entry today.  A snippet of the one of the journeys:

I am going to move [to Oregon] because my farm is not doing good.  All my plants have died.  Now we are low on food.  I am scared because of sickness, poison, Indians, snakebites, and even death.  But I am pretty excited, too.  We are just waiting on the grass to grow.

We have a lot planned this unit, and will be only continuing 1 "extra" subject a day to go along with our Trail study.  I'm hoping this will end up an all inclusive unit.  I would love any hands on ideas (makes for great pictures!) to implement during our travels.  Keeping my eyes open for hats, old looking clothes, and bonnets.  Might as well dress the part to!  :)
