Lilacs

I've always had a love for lilacs.  In our area, there are a lot of old

farmhouses that have these really big lilacs.  Every time I would

drive by them, I would just oooohhhh and ahhhhh.  Finally, a few years ago, I planted my

very own lilac bush.  When spring time came this year, everyone had lilacs. Everyone,

that is, except for me.    Did I plant the wrong kind of lilac bush?  How come

everyone has flowers but me?

.

About a week or two later, when everyone else's lilacs were fading away, (this is in June), I noticed that my lilacs were coming into full bloom.   I found out  that there are different kinds of lilacs,

and there is a late bloomer variety.

.

The story doesn't end there.  Right next to my pretty bloomer, is another lilac bush

that did not bloom.  Again,  I thought I'd planted the wrong kind of lilac.  But, just as soon as the one pictured began to fade, the one next to it bloomed!  I guess I have "late lilacs" and "late-late lilacs"!

Now, if I can just get an early bloomer (and maybe an "on-time" one )  -  I'll be in Lilac Heaven!

I love lilacs! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest where they grew big and beautiful. Here is the humid east they are smaller and bloom time is so much shorter. I noticed mine actually blooms very early and then again in late summer. The blooms are small but very aromatic. Reminds me of great grandma!

Yes, I love the late bloomers. All of our lilac's are right-on-time blooming. It's hard to tell from the picture, but your's may be a Korean lilac that does bloom later and longer. We have them in front of our little town's library and it's such a fragrant greeting when all of the other lilacs have petered out for the year. We were just discussing how we wish our lilacs would bloom all summer long. Right now I have fresh cut peonies on the table and that helps ease the sorrow of my lilacs being done for the year. :)

Your lilacs are beautiful! Since I was a young girl, I have enjoyed all shades of purple. I'd love to create a garden around that one day. And hydrangeas! I'd love to have those, too. I appreciate that you share so many photos of your flowers. They give me many ideas.

I love lilacs too. They smell so awesome. I have 2 in my yard. One is under a huge cedar tree but it actually started blooming this last year.
Your chili recipe on your next post sounds so good too. Have a great weekend.

About Me

Welcome to our ranch! Come, sit on our porch, have some tea, and stay a while. Were going to have a lot of fun chatting. Bring the kids, too, as we've got lots of room to play, horses to ride, cats and kitties to cuddle, gentle dogs to pet, and baby chickens to look at and hold. We can take trail rides around the alfalfa field, wade through the creek, take a paddle boat to the island on the lake, go fishing, or explore the Black Walnut Forest. There's no hurry around here. We'll just meander about and maybe even pack a picnic basket - Ranch Shekinah is abounding with Mulberry trees, wild blackberries and raspberries, an orchard of apple trees, and a herb garden.
