Fresh Cherry Pie

Posted in Ranch Shekinah

After we unloaded the horses from their trailer, I asked Margie if she'd like to

pick some cherries with us.  "Sure," she said.  We grabbed some bags and off we went.

We had fun chatting and picking cherries, while our husbands talked about the day's

event at the horse competition.

It wasn't but a few hours later, that Margie's children were back on our front porch, with

a warm cherry pie, taken straight out of the oven.  We devoured it quickly!

We never had a better pie - but how could it  not be the best?  From a cherry tree straight

into a home-made pie crust, made with love by our neighbor.  It doesn't get any better than that!

Oh yum, Antoinette, those cherries look good! We used to have a cherry tree when we lived in CA and they were wonderful! I miss that!
That pie looks delish too!

That's the best way to have pie!!
I love to bake. Not cook. When we lived in Mich I wanted to learn how to make a pie from scratch. It was Oct and I was newly married. We went to the local apple orchard and picked some. A few hrs later, voila, a homemade pie. It was a labor of love and he's been loving them ever since.

Thanks for sharing,
Robyn

OOOOOH! YOu are making me drool and envy. How do you keep the pesky birds from eating up all the cherries? We finally cut down our cherry trees because we never got any cherries! (Sort of like our hazelnut tree--it's a monster now, but we hardly harvest any, due to the pesky, no-account neighborhood squirrels). Never had a problem with the creatures when it was farmland around our one acre, but as soon as the developments grew up around us, the barn swallows left and the neighborhood birds (and squirrels) moved in.

I love cherry pie! The neighbor in the development across the street has a semi-dwarf pie cherry tree, which I asked to pick from a few years ago. I wonder if he'd be open this year....But our cherries are NO WAY ready out here.

I can just smell the cherries on the trees! We picked cherries when I was growing up. I loved the smell of the cherries on a hot summer day. Of course hot pie trumps it all!

Fresh cherry pie, warm from the oven, takes me back to when my grandmother made them - from her cherry tree. Sweet memories.

Ummmm, how yummy! I've never even seen a cherry tree in real life - sad isn't it. I'll have to remember that come apple harvest.

An alligator? How weird is that? It must have been someone's pet at one time. Yes, if you come across the photo sometime, do post about it. I'd love to see it. Were you in the newspaper too about that one?

That's my husband's favorite kind of pie and the kind that we bought at the farmer's market, by the way! It is very simple to do a slide show. Do you already use photobucket? They have an option to create the slideshow. Or slide.com is another good one to use. Once you have your slide show, you use the html code and source when you write your entry. I can talk you through it. Just let me know. :-) I know you'd have great slide shows. I like them when I have more than a few pictures to show.

About Me

Welcome to our ranch! Come, sit on our porch, have some tea, and stay a while. Were going to have a lot of fun chatting. Bring the kids, too, as we've got lots of room to play, horses to ride, cats and kitties to cuddle, gentle dogs to pet, and baby chickens to look at and hold. We can take trail rides around the alfalfa field, wade through the creek, take a paddle boat to the island on the lake, go fishing, or explore the Black Walnut Forest. There's no hurry around here. We'll just meander about and maybe even pack a picnic basket - Ranch Shekinah is abounding with Mulberry trees, wild blackberries and raspberries, an orchard of apple trees, and a herb garden.
