Beautiful, Beautiful, Hydrangeas

I think I've mentioned before, maybe a hundred times, that I love hydrangeas.  There are all kinds of varieties and different colors.

My favorite is blue - but you have to keep the soil at a special acidic ph level to get this color.  Although I treated my flowers this year very carefully with the right stuff, I think I have discovered why they never did turn blue.  I have my hose hooked up to the house, instead of an outside water pump. We have well water, which has to be treated with water softener so that the bathtub, sink, and toilet don't turn all orange from a calcium build up.  I think that this affected my ability to get the soil

condition right for the color blue.

So, instead of blue, I got a lot of pink.  But that's o.k.  their still beautiful.

 .

I couldn't help but make it a "photo moment" when I picked them.

.

 .

I placed some in a bucket filled with water and let them float in it.  Then I arranged some around

the bucket.

 .

.

I decided to put a basket of freshly picked corn from our garden on the same table.  When I asked

Rachel what she thought of my photo lay-out, she thought it wouldn't be complete with out her kittie

included.

.

.

Well, if the kittie should be in it, then surely the dog, and my children playing in the background should be, too.

.

.

I didn't get blue, but I enjoyed them just the same.  And now during the upcoming long winter, I can

still enjoy them through my pictures.

Join Mary for a lot of great show and tells....

Sigh....fall is here. I'd have taken photos too. They turned out beautiful, even in pink. I like to include our kids in, "What else should be in this photo?" We just got cell phones with cameras...kind of scary! Had to laugh at your growing collection of subjects for the photo.

I was JUST thinking the same thing I'm going to enjoy my summer pictures. My Show n Tell sort of hints at that too. It started raining here. Our 4-H leader and I were just talking about how we shall cope with that.

We have to 'deal' with the well water at our next home too! I have to remind dh we need to be looking into a filtration system or we are going to have water with an odor and red fixtures.

The next house is being painted inside now. What hard color choices we made. I hope not too many surprises about what a color looks like on a big wall!

One of my favorite flowers! We currently do not have any bushes but in our old house we had several. I dried them and used them in wreaths that I gave away each year. They are so pretty! Nails in the ground around the bush will bring a deep blue flower.

My grandmother had lots of these in blue. They were beautiful, but the pinks are pretty too. I love your landscaping. Your house always looks so welcoming.

They are so beautiful! Mine is white and is confused with a snowball bush, but I love it anyway. I think those of us who live in the South have better luck with blue colored hydrangeas.

Oh, Antoinette! I just love photos of your home and property - the flowers were just beautiful icing on the cake. You are inspiring us to create a homestead foundation for our children, a place they always want to come back to. Thank you!

Have a lovely and peace-filled weekend, and thank you so much for sharing your photos.

God Bless,

Oh, they are lovely. I know my mom loves them too and has always had trouble with them. But they are so pretty! Are you going to dry them?

Enjoy the 'fruits' of your labor!! I know I have!!! (Not many 'flowers' in my desert yard!!! )

Thanks for sharing,

My mother loves hydrangeas. I remember something about putting egg shells around the roots for something, but mix up the blue and pink options. Uh..obviously whichever one needs the calcium, right? LOL

My one and only experience of trying to grow a hydrangea (I love them too) was a feast for the slug. Ate my baby down to the nub. Never got another one.

I love hydrangeas. My grandmother always grew them and they remind me of her. When we lived in Washington state, they can grow hydrangeas that are deep, deep red and deep purple. Amazing. I guess it must be something in the volcanic soil.

I *love* hydrangeas! Thank you for sharing your photos.

Also, I wanted to share with you that I trotted one of our horses today. I was not on her, but beside her. We think she has Cushings and I am trying to exercise her more regularly in hopes that she can begin to feel better.

I so enjoy reading your blog. THANK YOU!

Very pretty! I have a snowball bush, but I just recently bought my first hydrangea & planted it in the back. At first I wanted it to hide our gas tank, but then found out how big they can get, so it had to go back by my ornamental tree area. I love their color - mine will turn a half white - half pink flower, I think. Your's are beautiful!

What a pretty display. I could never ever get those to grow here where I live. Probably cause we have so many walnut trees in the yard. lol
Just letting you know that I didn't win anything at the artshow but still glad I did it anyways.

Oh it looks beautiful! The "show and tell" looks like a fun one to do.
We took Frosty, the bucksin, to a trainer last week. So we're hoping it will work out. If so, we may end up keeping him.
Have a good week!

I love hydrangeas too! They are so beautiful. I did manage to get blue this year, but only for a while. Now they are pink. I only have a small bush so I don't pick too many. Yours are just stunning!

About Me

Welcome to our ranch! Come, sit on our porch, have some tea, and stay a while. Were going to have a lot of fun chatting. Bring the kids, too, as we've got lots of room to play, horses to ride, cats and kitties to cuddle, gentle dogs to pet, and baby chickens to look at and hold. We can take trail rides around the alfalfa field, wade through the creek, take a paddle boat to the island on the lake, go fishing, or explore the Black Walnut Forest. There's no hurry around here. We'll just meander about and maybe even pack a picnic basket - Ranch Shekinah is abounding with Mulberry trees, wild blackberries and raspberries, an orchard of apple trees, and a herb garden.
