Wee Felt Folk

Have you ever bought your child a gift because YOU liked it and thought they just might like it too? How about buying it because YOU wanted to play with it and hoped that they’d ask you to play with them??

Ever since I was a youngster, I’ve loved sewing! Show & Tell was the highlight of my week at school. I’d try to sew up something each week just so I could bring it to Show & Tell. I love using lots of colors and I especially enjoy embroidery. It’s a bonus if the project works up quickly, as I’m quite impatient!

When I saw the book “Wee Felt Folk” by Sally Mavor, featured in Magic Cabin (I don’t think they carry it any longer) catalog, I just knew that it would be so much fun! Sweet little families of the cutest dolls, made with colorful, natural materials, with lots of intricate embroidery, but in very small amounts that would surely work up quickly. I hoped that my daughter, who is also quite a gifted stitcher, would enjoy it too! For her 12th birthday I bought the book (from ebay at quite a savings,) and stuffed it in a big basket with a couple dozen 1/8 yard pieces of that wonderful wool felt and various other fixin’s to make these incredible little dolls. She was indeed thrilled and enjoyed my sewing along with her. She has yet to complete her first doll, however. Her sister has made two of them and I just completed this 4” tall one. Lest you think I have way too much time on my hands, this doll took me a couple months to finish simply because I had to work on it in such little snippets of time. I can’t wait to make her a hubby and some children too!

This doll is adorable! I am quite impressed, as I don't even know how to sew a button on a shirt! I'm going to learn, though! I told my hubby last night that now that I have my taxes done, I'm going to sit down and learn how to use our teeny-tiny sewing machine. It's a miniature version, so not sure how much I can do with it, but it's a good start!

I am so glad that you posted the pics of your kids' bedroom! Wow! You fit a lot of things into that space! I've noticed how creative we have to be in order to get all of our things into our small home. But then again, we don't have 5 kids! I'll get some pics posted of our home soon. I'm doing the CHCH challenge and will be taking some before and afters. Thanks for sharing!
