Questions notebook
Posted in notebooking
Years ago when I was in a chat with Terri Camp she had mentioned a questions notebook. I thought it was a wonderful idea at the time since my oldest two were at the ages of asking "Why?" to everything.
She had mentioned that a questions notebook is a notebook where you put those interesting questions that only kids can ask with the answers when you find them.
My children and I have been working on ours for about 6 years now.
I was enjoying going through it today and the memories it brought back.
Some of my favorite questions have been: (I know the answers to these, but if you want to know the answers, you'll have to do some research. You never know when your child will ask these questions to you.)
"Mom, if boy sea horses have the babies then does that mean that the girl sea horses have the sperm?"
"What is a fadora?"
"Did Noah have an umbrella?"
"What does GT stand for on a Mustang GT?"
For this answer you can read this blog I wrote way back when in June!... you have to read down a bit to get what "GT" stands for.
Then of course there are all those questions of How and why something works the way it does, or why things are named the way they are. Those can be some of the hardest to find answers to.
I love it when my children ask questions because if I don't know the answer then I can show them how to find the answer. This develops great research skills in my children and for me it fills in my learning gaps. Many times their questions make wonderful 'spring boards' or ' bunny trails' that lead to more exciting learning. I love home schooling!!
What are some of the intriging questions your children have asked?

I've just got myself so encouraged and blessed reading your inspiring blog!
I agree children's questions are real turbo boosters to learning and adventure. Over here we don't have homeschool curricula and we have to be pretty resourceful. I find the children's questions really important as they give us great directions to persue and show up things we need to go over again. Your one about the sea horses got me intrigued...!
Nice to meet you

I love this idea! My children are 12, 10 and 5 months. I suppose it's not too late to start this for the older two. I'm going to borrow this idea! Thank you for inspiring me!

and the link to Dandelion Seeds list. I had looked for it earlier. Your annv. get away sounds awesome! I will have to have dh read all about it so he can take some pointers from your dh. Mine is sweet and generous but I don't think he qualifies as romantical! LOL I liked the "Did Noah have an umbrella question" Too cute!

FLHSM0M sent me to your blog. My son asked a doozy(sp?) of a question yesterday. What does worship mean. We looked it up in the dictionary and it didn't clear it up. This is a great idea!

I am glad you all like the idea. It sure has been fun in our home to do this notebook. I hope you all find the same enjoyment from it that I have.
One thing I love about homeschoolblogger is that there are PLENTY of neat blogs to get inspired and encouraged through. It is my pleasure that I have been able to encourage any of you while you visited my blog. Home schooling isn't always easy and if I can help put a smile of someone's face, put an idea in their head or give encouragement then it is worth it.
May the Lord bless you in your families, lives, homes, and 'schools'.
Hugs,
Dianna
