It is nice to take a week or two and not have to worry about teaching or coming up with new things the kids could learn. Even though we home school year round it is still nice to take much needed breaks to refresh.
In these past two weeks of taking a break I have been able to get some reading in, some "spring cleaning" done and other things around the home that needed to be done. I've had a wonderful time with the kids as we've played games, watched movies, rode bikes, hikes, walks and cooking. Now that I've had some time to relax a bit, to get refreshed I am ready to start back up next week.
One of the MANY perks to homeschooling is the freedom to take breaks when they are needed. They provide an icy cold drink on a hot day! Refreshing goodness.

This is my first year to hs my 2 oldest boys 10&6. I lay in bed at night thinking of all the things I want to do but come morning I dread facing my kids before I even get out of bed. My oldest brings me coffee and puts the cup on my bed side table. Yes, he is up before me. I cringe at saying that out loud. Is it that we need to tke a break? Could you please promise me that after a break I will be ready to start again? I read about the lives of homeschooling moms and I want to be in that frame of mind but I am the product of a family of women that are career oriented and I have to remind myself constantly that this is want I want to do and I am at least completely convinced that public school is not ever an option again. I want to be sweet and happy and joyful and easy going. Instead of resentful of how much time I spend thinking about who has underwear and who's nails need to be cut and if my husband and kids are getting enough fiber I mean come on! I find myself constently trying to hoard time for myself. I ADORE and Like my kids and am completely in love with my husband. I want my joy back. I am so sorry of how selfish this sounds but I need whatever advice seasoned homeschooling mothers has to offer. atparker5402@sbcglobal.net

I love the flexibility of homeschooling. Learning year round, we don't have to have the "I'm bored" syndrome and mom saying - I just can't wait for fall when the kids are gone. Besides, there's so much to learn! I'm thankful for our time in the summer.

Amen to good breaks and getting some rest and refreshment. We just got back from Texas and a two week break from our studies. I just "thought" I would be able to keep to a homeschool schedule while in Dallas, but nope, we ended up ditching our schedule and spending quality time with family and friends.
So glad to hear you are getting a break also,
<>< Kelly
