Have You Seen My Pencil?
Did you know that in the middle of the night in the dark depth's of the laundry room when you're sleeping that the underwear gnomes and sock gnomes fight? It's an all out "king of the mountain" type fight to gain control of all sock-dom. This, my dear friends is why my children, nor I, can't find pencils. You see, pencils are their weapon of choice. This is the reason why you can never find pencils, underwear or missing socks.

I think the gnomes take pencil sharpeners as well, but I haven't been able to prove that yet...

Seriously, at least once a day I hear, "Mom, where is a pencil?"
I have a hard enough time keeping tally on my pens, let alone their pencils.

I've tried giving the kids their own pencil boxes to keep in their own cubbies. Failed. I've tried a community pencil box. Failed.

I am terrible at coming up with creative organization solutions for our pencil problem. I have not been blessed with the gift of organization. Organization is something my dyslexic self has a hard time with. I "see" everything in pictures. I can walk by objects and I'll make a mental picture of the object and what is around it. I've always amazed my hubbs with my gift for knowing exactly where everything is.

Anyway, I welcome any ideas for organizing pencils.

We have the same pencil problem and I am sorry that I can't offer you any solutions. I have solved our pencil sharpener problem though. You have to buy one that is too heavy for the gnomes to carry off. Get a big industrial sized one that plugs into the wall. It will stay put, I promise.

I've been wanting to get a pencil sharpener that plugs into the wall. Battery powered ones usually get broken.
The kids always loose their mini manual sharpeners.

I have about 4 places around the house for pencils. With about 100 pencils here, there should not be a problem finding one. I also bought one of those crank pencil sharpeners and screwed it down to my desk. Now if only I could hire a pencil picker upper... I must pick up 10 pencils a day off of the floor!

I actually thought about doing that, Debbie. Putting pencil boxes in different places. Your comment helped encourage me to give it a try. Thank you!

Jan. 23, 2009 - Confused?!*

I completely didn't understand this blog as we never have trouble finding pencils and they are alway sharpened with full erasers. Our socks are always clean, sorted, and put in our drawers without holes. We are also always daily found to be wearing new form fitting underwear so you have to explain this blog entry to me as I am confused...

OH, WAIT, is that DROOL??? I just woke up from my dream ... I hate falling asleep at the computer!

love ya,
Jodi W (now you get to guess which one!)
