The other night at the dinner table our discussion went like this...
JD (oldest son) asks, "How is this soup made?" (Egg Drop Soup)
Me, "With chicken broth, eggs...blah, blah, blah and if your not careful when you pour the eggs in then it will overflow..."
JD asks with puzzled look on his face, "Chicken broth? Do they milk a chicken for that?"
This is when my hubby and I break out in rolling laughter! My son was laughing too because I can just picture in his mind someone trying to 'milk' a chicken. (Chickens are funny looking to begin with...!) By now all 6 of us are laughing. (We laugh a lot at the dinner table... everyone should eat meals together at the table.)
I then had to tell my son how to make chicken broth.... by boiling a chicken.
Speaking of chickens I have another dinner conversation. This was with my Grandma, Grandpa, Great Aunt, My mother and I. We were all traveling together to California. The dinner took place at a buffet in "Excalaber" in Las Vegas.
We all sat in a round booth in a corner and my Grandpa and Great Aunt started telling stories about the two of them growing up. We all laughed so hard at their stories!
This is how I remember the chicken story.
Grandpa went on about the chickens they had and how they hated having to feed them. Their mom had told them to go feed the chickens. My Great Aunt and Grandpa came up with this clever idea to pour cement in the coop with the chickens because they thought that if the chickens stood in one place that they would eat better, plus they wouldn't have to chase them around....
Unfortunatly the chickens didn't survive.
Mom, if you read this... please share about how you remember that story. To this day I can hear Grandpa trying to tell it without laughing. I can still picture those chickens up to their feathers in cement.
