A verse for the new year...

Posted in My Christian Walk

I really want to focus on four things in my life this coming year.

1. To really get to know God. I have grown a lot over the past few years but I know that I have a lot more growing to do. There are still so many weeds in my life that need to be plucked. One in particular that has really popped up a lot lately. I have to let my  "pet" sins go. I have to turn away from them. I will obtain nothing this year if I loose focus on God.

I was reading Psalms 51 today. Here is the verse that jumped out at me while I was reading and I knew this would make a perfect verse to start the new year.

Psalm 51:10 Creat in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

This was David's prayer after he was confronted by the prophet Nathan. This will be my prayer as I seek a newly restored relationship with my Father this coming year.

2. To really be a true, godly, Biblical helpmeet to my husband. I have the CD set by Doug Wilson called The Wise Woman's Guide To Blessing Her Husband's Vision. I also have Created to Be His Helpmeet by Debi Pearl. Oh yeah and becoming A Wife After God's Own Heary by Elizabeth George. These are materials I plan on referring back to over the coming months. Of course my Bible will be my ultimate guide and I plan on making special notes about what the Bible tells me as a wife to do. The Bible as my spine and the other reference materials I listed above will be my gateway to blessing my husband and our family. I have been lacking in this area and look foward to being the helpmeet God created me to be.

3. To love, nurture, train, and adore my children. All too many times its easy to send the children off to play or to watch a video or to take a nap. All too often I do this. My children are a gift from God, a precious blessing. They need to know this. They dont need to feel like a burden or something that I give the basic neccessities too, they need to be a part of my everyday life. They need to be held more, cuddled more, played with more, read to more. They need a mommy who loves them and is happy to have them around. They also need consistency. They need a schedule and a routine. I have many, many references and wise women to guide me in this endeavor. Once again the Bible will be my main guidebook, and I will take note of scriptures that speak to me as a parent.

4. To make my home a clean, cozy, welcoming enviroment. Im putting together a Household Management Binder. As soon as hubby gets my printer to work I will print pages. For now I have simple routines and goals outlined on notebook paper. Using the Bible as my main guidebook and my trusty pen and notebook I will search the scriptures for verses that talk to me about my home. The place of refuge God expects it to be. The orderliness He expects to see. And of course the love He expects to see in it. There are many older women I am looking to in my time of need. There is so much I dont know. So much still to learn. I am falling broken before my Lord to tell Him I have sinned for far too long in this area of my life. I have held on and held on and let pride get the best of me. NO MORE! I have repented and now left it to God to change me. I expect it to be a bit painful as the furniture (priorities and expectations I have) get moved around a bit to meet His will, but I look forward to the process.

5. To be a good steward of our finances. Hubby handles the money. He has however delegated to me the task of paying bills, buying necessities, and keeping the records. I have a rough draft of a schedule posted by the computer that I made up today. We get three checks a month and I have our bills broken down into those three checks. I have been clearing off and out a desk in our living room that will become the financial station in our home. Hubby is building me my own computer for my birthday and I will place the computer on my desk, along with a big calander, a thingamajig that holds our due bills, the checkbook and stamps and envelopes, and a cute coffee cup of pens and pencils and highlighters. The drawers will serve as filing cabinets. God has blessed up this past year with enough money to make a dent in our debt. We must show him we appreciate this gift by continuing to use it for His honor and glory.

There you have it my five!! While I was typing this I came up with a great idea. Each one of these goals is being assigned a day of the week. 1-5 is Monday-Friday. I will blog about progress, setbacks, success, failure and tips and tidbits I learn along the way. I have been looking for a path for my blog and maybe this is it. Of course I will contiue blogging about adoption/fosterparent stuff and homeschooling reports, but this will be the guideline for my blog. Wooohoo! Hope this works out.

Happy New Year to everyone. May God rain His abundant blessings down on your family this year!

happy new year

Jan. 3, 2006 - your goals

I love your goals. And your method of keeping track of your progress!
So many resolutions get forgetten by the end of January, i think because we don't set smaller goals and check our progress repeatedly. Blogging about them will keep you accountable too. What a great idea!
