Jul. 30, 2007 - Pain in my wallet and my coffee cup!

If you stopped by today looking for some spiritual encouragement, or possibly a new decorating tidbit, you have come to the wrong place.  Sorry...check back next week.

Today I am ranting about Starbucks.  Yes, Starbucks has raised their prices yet again.  OK, I realize the price of milk has sky rocketed.  I paid $4.14 at Wal-Mart last week.  So I'm paying more for the gas to fill the car, to get to the store, to buy the milk, to feed the family that consumes the milk that lives in the house that Mike built.  Good grief!  Now my one guilty pleasure is also going to cost me more.  I can't help myself.  I adore their coffee.  Mike says I'm a coffee snob.  I beg to differ.  I just enjoy a good great cup of joe.  Can someone please tell me what's wrong with that?  Part of my addiction can be blamed attributed to my dear friend who use to work at Starbucks.  She brought me home pounds and pounds of the wonderful beans for FREE.  Yes, free.  Now you see my dilemma.  I have gone from FREE to facing the possibility of selling a kidney in order to feed my habit.

Guess I'll go drown my sorrows in a cup of Folgers...sorry, just doesn't have the same effect.

As a fellow coffee snob who currently has a whopper of a headache 'cause she didn't get her morning cup(s) of joe...I hear ya and send big, empathetic hugs!

I have Folgers at home and every single time we have guests, they say it is good coffee and want to know what kind it is. They are always surprised to hear. :) You still deserve the Starbucks treat, though. Drop the hint that you'd like some gift cards.

Angela, there's a goodie waiting for you on my blog.
http://ordinarylife.typepad.com/lifeartist/2007/07/blogger-awards.html It probably won't make up for the travesty recently committed by Starbucks, but it may pick you up a bit. ;)

Blessings,
Trish

PLEASE say it isn't so! My Uncle once told me the solution to my delema...which is the same as yours... you see this isn't the first, or second, or umm...third raise in prices. He said, "If you can't beat 'em join 'em". He invested 1000. in stock and saw it triple in 2 months! Our small, used to be redneck town has just put in it's 11th SB! He loves his investment and says a hearty "drink up" whenever he sees me!

I don't drink coffee but my husband is a coffee "snob". If you lived in Iowa you could have some great home roasted beans. We have some great local shops. At least that is what my dh says.

Well my coffee snob husband thinks Peets coffe is even better than starbucks. You can try that? if they're raising their prices too....you can always try tea. :) or not. :)

While I don't share your affection for Starbucks (or any coffee for that matter), I do share your pain at the continual rising prices everywhere we turn. I told my girls if they don't start rationing their milk to a glass a day plus what they get in their cereal when they eat that (which they often eat for dessert so it is a daily thing even if it isn't for breakfast), I was going to have to start making powdered milk.... They are being more frugal now, but I hate that we have to do that.

I liked what one of your commenters said though, ask for gift cards for your birthday and other holidays....:)

Hugs,
Donna

;askdjf;laskdjf;lasdkjf;aslkdjf;asldkfj...

So, should I let you know if my husband ever gets around to actually putting our home-roasted coffee beans up for sale online?

I love Starbucks! I don't drink coffee in the warm weather. Starbucks is one of the things I love about fall.

Oh how well I know the sad tale. There is now way they needed to raise their prices. They were already getting plenty for a cup! Grrrr!

I know this is going to sound odd, because I love, absolutely love, coffee. But, I have never had starbucks coffee! Don't know what it tastes like. I do like to get the different flavors from the store now and then to grind up in my grinder (hazlenut, french vanilla, anything!) And Paul deLima is great.
Stopped in to say hello! Blessings, Theresa

Hey -- that's what I drink. I buy the instant in bulk from COSTCO. HA HA!!! I know... I'm a trailer park coffee drinker... but hey -- that's all I can afford right now. *giggle*

DH figured up we are paying $4000 in gas/year. We should be able to move closer to his work and afford the higher property taxes for $4000 a year. :/ WOW -- gas prices are affecting everything aren't they.. Man alive...
