Sep. 21, 2007 - Vain reflections

Today's the day.  I've put it off long enough.  Vanity aside, I can't risk getting pulled over and being mistaken for a terrorist.  You see, here in Texas you have 30 days to apply for a drivers license.  If you are pulled over with Texas registration and an out of state licence, you will quickly be hauled off to jail.  Who knows what political ulterior motives a mom of four driving a Suburban might have.

So here's the problem.  I don't want to get a new licence because...I like my old drivers license picture.  How many people can say that?  OK, I realize this shows a bit of my vain side, but come on.  It's a really good picture!

Today is not a good day to have a mug shot taken.  Hormones seem to have taken control of my face, leaving me with something slightly resembling a unicorn's horn directly between my eyes.  Sharing my dire concerns with my husband, he remarked, "Can't you just put a patch over it or something?"  Luckily he made the comment over the phone so I was unable to smack him.  Lest you think he is a totally uncaring male, he was kidding.

I've also aged...considerably...since the last photo.  OK, so it was only taken last year, but I feel much older.  The bags under the eyes seem to be vying for more space on my face lately.  As for the weight issue, I have purposely not weighed myself in a few weeks in preparation for this day.  When the nice man behind the counter looks at my current license and inquires as to whether my weight is correct, I will be able, in all good conscience, to reply "Yes sir, it is".

I just got my passport photo this afternoon! and I CAN'T BELIEVE how overweight my chin makes me look. I've got two so it seems.

Your post made me laugh.

my last driver's license photo was really good, the best one I've ever had, and I've had some doozies. I can relate to how you feel, I didn't like getting a new one. Good luck.

Struggled with the same thing when we moved here from WA. I liked my picture for once and then had to turn it over. I also had to take the test without studying . Daniel took his at the same time. I scored higher which completely made my day. Guess I have a few marbles left up there somewhere:)

I'd have to agree I feel the same way about myself- I am sure it is a tool of satan to rob me of peace, joy and contentment. When I hear, "Don't look in that mirror, keep your eyes down..." I tell him he is a Liar...it is a battle you know.

Praying that God lets us see "us" as He sees us...give us eyes to see Lord. Help us not be caught up in "age" and fear.

Ok, you made me laugh (only because I totally understand). Vain or not I will pray that God allows your picture to turn out even better than you last one! God is amazing.

Have a blessed weekend.

HA! How funny but I am with you...mine expires on my birthday in about a month. I am sure the picture on this one is going to make me look seven years older (only because I am) but still better than the one they took when I was sick and trying to hold a crying baby out of the camera shot!
Blessings,
Theresa
