OK, just one more "happy holidays" rant...then I'll stop...maybe. One of my long-time Idaho friends sent me this great poem from the Urban Homemaker. Thanks Michelle!
Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.
Why the Politically Correct Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ‘Holiday ‘.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe’s the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears
You won’t hear the word Christmas;
it won’t touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your
‘Dream Tree’ Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday !
You know, I even find myself thinking "Happy Holidays" sometimes, because that's all I ever hear anymore.
I remember years ago when I was among the "working" crowd (yeah, like I don't work now that I'm a SAHM!!!) my boss and co-workers told me not to write Merry Christmas on cards I sent to customers, lest I offend someone. Whatever. I did it anyway!
Thanks for sharing this poem. I liked it!
I really enjoy your posts, it sort of reminds me of my good 'old' days, not that they aren't still good! But I just want to say I think the War is ON! Finally we are claiming our rights, refusing to compromise our religious practices (like other groups do) and acting like we are proud to be Children of the Most High God. Maybe there won't be any other laws passed that trample our culture.
When I was teaching in the special ed class, one of the aids started pulling out "holiday" stories - Santa, Hanukkah, and Kwanza. So I asked if we were allowed to read the Christmas story. She said it was fine as long as we had a balance. I have a picture book that is word for word from the Bible and I read that to my class. I decided to let the regular teacher do Santa and Kwanza this week.
I just want to drop you a reminder that in the midst of it all is a big God who wants you to enjoy Him. Don't loose your joy because of all the negative stuff of this world.
I am blessed so far in that my community is small enough still that most everyone still says Merry Christmas, even the floats in our parade said that instead of Happy Holidays, but I know in bigger areas it is really being pushed.... so ridiculous why everyone else's rights are pushed, and the Christian's are asked to give up theirs.
Thanks for sharing and in case I don't get a chance later, I hope you and your family have a wonderful and very MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I loved this!! :) Thanks for sharing!
We just had an incident with my 7 year old daughter at her school this week! The teacher ACTUALLY took BACK - from all the kids - in front of my daughter - the C-mas cards that we had attached to candy canes - because they were "religious" (talked about Jesus)! I was shocked!!! We have been making the candy cane cards for 8 years! The whole story is on my blog - www.bestofthewests.blogspot.com
As of now - we are looking into our options of possible legal action if the school doesn't change it's mind about what they think our Constitutional rights truly are!!! But don't you know that I still sent in more same candy canes a couple days later with my kindergartener!! His teacher LOVED them! :)
The daily, sometimes hourly, musings of a homeschooling mom of four surviving on prayer, friendship and lots of Starbucks. Some days my cup runs over and some days it all spills out the cracks...and I wouldn't have it any other way.
