Jan. 24, 2006 - The Debate over ILLEGAL Immigrants

I know that everyone is entitled to his or her own views and opinions, but sometimes those views just make me say, "Huh??"

The United States continues to fight a battle against illegal immigrants crossing our borders in search of a better life. Why wouldn't they want to come to America?  Not only can they make more per hour than in their own country, but we'll give them social security benefits, welfare checks, heck, we'll even pay for them to go to college!

There are groups around the country fighting for the rights of these immigrants.  While I do believe in their fair and humane treatment, these groups seem to be ignoring one major point...THEY ARE ILLEGAL!  They have entered our country under false pretenses, sneaking across the border, usually with the help of these special interest groups.  Now one such group in Arizona is actually handing out detailed maps of the Arizona desert, complete with locations of watering stations, to those trying to cross into the United States.  Where is the accountability here?

Don't get me wrong.  I understand that many of these people are merely in search of what we often take for granted - the American Dream.  I am not begrudging them that.  However, we need to find LEGAL ways for them to enter our country and earn the lifestyle they are seeking.

I couldn't agree with you more. I appreciate your posting about this hot issue. People are soooo soft hearted that sometimes they don't use logic. (my dear wonderful mother!!!) Because they feel bad for them they will excuse what they are doing which is wrong or unlawful. BTW...we have close friends who are a multi-racial family, She's Japanese, he's Mexican. He is from a LAWFUL hispanic family (some still in Mexico) and he agrees with this. He's a principal at an alternative school and has gone really far!
