PROGRAMMERS 'R' US 101001110100001001

It's all about....

Well after my wife (debismumto4) got started on blogging back in January, getting on my computer has been tough. She's really got the blog bug. So to redress the balance (and get more computer time), I'm starting my own.

So what am I going to blog about? Computers, that's what! Well, specifically computer programming. After all I am a computer geek both at home and at work. But first, something about me and my family....

We are a family with 4 kids and have been home schooling for 3 years. We are Christians and attend a nearby Baptist church, where I am the youth leader.

I work as a computer programmer for a large fashion retailer in the UK, whilst my wife does the hard work at home. If you want to know more about us, just ask!

So back to blogging.... Well I hope to encourage computer programming amongst home schoolers (Parents and Kids). Whoa, don't all leave at once! If your still interested read on. I want to help people to learn programming because even if you don't use it professionally, it helps reinforce other skills such as math, logic, typing (as if you bloggers need that), patience (when your computer program has bug in it) and geekyness. Err, you may not want to encourage that last one.

If you are new to programming, maybe I can help you start. If you are an old hand, perhaps I could use your help. I'll try to keep things as generic as possible so that if you are a C++ programmer you'll get as much out of this as a UNIX shell scripter. Also, if that last sentence made no sense, I'll try to keep my postings non-geek.

So there you are... Comments and questions on programming or computers and the internet (but not web pages, I don't do that) are more than welcome.

Hello darling hubby
Here is your first comment and I hope you get as much blessing from blogging here as I have. Please don't spend too much time on it though as it means I can't. I suppose you could always buy me a lap top though!!!!
Love You

I'm so glad to see that you have finally started a blog!

And best of all it already has a "geeky" feel. :)

Now I know you said that you dont like us posting sites ...but I can't help this one;
Because you mentioned UNIX. Spend a little time at this site (its all about Linux - UNIX) www.frozentech.com. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click where it says "click here".

That is the Linux Geek Heaven!! They have every kind and form of Linux OS out there!

Check it out!

Good to see you on and it was really nice to me you and your family.

Hi Harrier, nice to see another dad at HSB. And as far as I know, you are the first UK dad to set up an HSB blog. I've always wanted to learn about programming. I'm a techie (physics major) but never could fathom the esoteric world of programming (mainly because the geeks seem incapable of explaining anything in any language other than fluent geek-speak, thus making the learning curve vertical.) Looking forward to your posts. -jay

Hi Mark,

Glad to see you've gotten set up in blogville! I don't know if Jay thinks I'm still a yank at heart or what, but I've been UK-dad blogging for a few weeks now. There are one or two others (you can guess at least one of them) that we need to get on here too. I've tagged you, for a little survey people send around. I thought it might give you a little more to put on here. Check out my blog, and it will show you questions, etc. Welcome to UK blogging. Hope to see you and Deb again soon.

So cool you're on board! I was about to show Darren your cool blog but he's fast asleep on the sofa so just have tooo eat his creme eggs and blog instead.

I do have to side with Deb on the laptop front. Just think...she'd be blogging away till her hearts content and you could play that running game until your running shoes burn out.
God Bless y'all Jane
