Computers: What all programmers should know

Posted in Computers

Ok to start, a few things you should know about computers

1. They are incredibly stupid. They make Homer Simpson look clever.

2. They are completely obedient. They will always do as you tell them to do. Even it’s wrong.  If they don’t do as you tell them, it’s because someone already told them not to.

3. If asked, they will repeat things over and over and over…….. And over. You need to tell them to stop (See 1 and 2). Did you see the brooms in Fantasia?

4. They are able to do lots of things at once (Unlike us men).

5. Although they will readily talk to each other, they will not talk to you. They are ignorant beyond belief. They have to be told how to communicate.

6. They are only machines, don’t anthropomorphise them. Speaking nicely to them and stroking their keyboards does not make them do anything any better or faster.

7. They are very logical. They make Mister Spock look positively illogical captain.

8. They can catch viruses, by coming into contact with infected computers on the internet. They need to get anti virus software to protect them.

9. They allow the Gospel to be sent to anywhere in the world, even where it's banned.

10.They allow Christians to share with one another, whether they are in the same street, or across an ocean. Thus we can build one another up.

11.Although you may never physically meet a fellow blogger, the words they share about themselves and God can touch you as if they had said them personally.

Hebrews 3:12-14 (New International Version)

See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.

Harrier, thanks for the clarification. When I was a kid, I always thought that someday the computers would get smart and take over the world, like in the Terminator. Nice to know we're safe! My sons like to laugh at original Star Trek, where not once but three times, Captain Kirk causes evil computers to self- destruct by trapping them in a logical loop. I've tried that with my PC, but it still doesn't explode.

If you have time, I'd love a concise explanation of programming. I've never been able to figure out what are objects and instances and all that happy stuff. Because of the ubiquitous geek-speak, the learning curve is vertical! thanks and take care, jay

Enjoyed the blog. My hubby at "hsdazed" is a techno guru guy.
He has his hands in code and such all day! I'm sure he'd get a chuckle out of this
post.
Take care,
Michelle
