We mosied on over to the 2nd Annual Watermelon Festival that was put on by the Watson-Brown Foundation and held on the grounds of Hickory Hill in Thomson, Georgia. Cute as it could be complete with the Watermelon Queen (only in the South), an antique tractor show, mule drawn wagon rides, music, vendors and more.
But the hallmark attraction for our family was the seed spittin' contest. Can't you envision my pride? Me, the proud homeschooling mother of boys dying to spit? Needless to say, it was official, with you know ~ official seed spittin' supervisors and everything. The "spitters" were grouped by ages and were given three attempts to spit their best, taking their longest "spit" as their official entry.

Well I am most especially proud to announce that our oldest son has won braggin' rights for the 11-14 yr olds at this year's festival. He spit his watermelon seed 18 feet and 6 inches!
Here is the official seed:

And here is the ever so official measuring of the seed that was spit:

The guys also raced in the 3 legged, greased watermelon race and took that event for braggin' rights as well..............

To cap off our competitive melon events - FREE watermelon!
We'll have to wait 'til next summer's end to see if we can hang on to our braggin' rights!
Have a great weekend ~ How 'bout some watermelon?
