Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

Posted in My Soap Box

Why did the chicken cross the road?

So its owner would have to file a report to the government and tell them why.

Under the USDA’s proposed mandatory NAIS program any American owning an animal other than a cat or a dog (livestock type animal) would have to do that very thing.

What’s NAIS, you ask?

It’s the National Animal Identification System – better known as the government’s attempts to GPS the animals owned by American citizens.

If you own one itty bitty pony or a herd of horses – they will need to know about it.

If you own one chicken or one goat or an entire herd of cattle – they will need to know about it.  Not only do they want to know about "it" or "them", but they want to see them on the satellite at that little space station in the sky we’ve all been paying for with our tax dollars.

They want the animal(s) paired with your name, your address and your Global Positioning System coordinate. The animal(s) will be given an I.D. number and a GPS chip – may as well be a suppository.

Honey, the U.S. Government can’t keep track of illegal aliens spilling over the borders of this country or flying in by airplane in every major airport across this Nation, pageant smiling with their false I.D.’s, but they want to GPS our livestock?

I’ve got their suppository.

If you are a horseback rider and go on trail rides, you will be required, under this program, to file a report with the government to notify them of such an event and the whereabouts of your horse until he returns to his happy little stall. This way, the government can “beam up” Trigger on the ol’ GPS satellite and check on him.

If your little Billy Goat Gruff leaves your yard and finds his way into Mr. McGregor’s garden, you have to file a report.  If Mr. McGregor shoots Billy Goat Gruff for sabotaging his garden; you have to file two reports.

If a coyote should get in your chicken house, like we experienced New Year’s Eve, and there are losses to your chicken flock, you have to file a report on each dead bird. We have some chickens that we have no idea what happened to during the New Year’s Eve massacre?  Guess I’d have to go knock on the den of our local coyote pack, huh?

Well, I hate to tell y’all, but they (the government) are in major full speed ahead to do so and to begin this summer, July 2006! Their plans are to have this complete mandatory animal tracking program in place along with “enforcement” by January 2009.

Wooooooh, enforcement - whatever that is.  Probably the local authorities will begin the process of imposing eminent domain policies on your home and property if you don't comply.

HERE is a greater detail and better explanation of the proposed program.

Why on earth would the U.S. Government want to take away more of our civil liberties and freedoms you ask? Why, because they are worried for our best interests in the event of a pandemic outbreak.

Outbreak of what?

Why, Mad Cow Disease, Bird Flu and West Nile virus, of course! Not to mention any others that may just decide to, well, break out.

Convenient, huh?

Is it just me or does anyone else question the timing of these sudden new viruses and diseases along with the sudden reappearance of old ones?

Coincidence?

What do you think?

Meanwhile, are Americans just going to sit back and allow more and more of our freedoms to be snatched away like in the eminent domain issues and now the proposed NAIS?

Or by some miracle will the ants in the anthill pick up their heads long enough to breathe some real oxygen and wake up?

One can only hope.

Research this for yourself and be sure to contact your State and Federal legislators as soon as possible to tell them where you stand on your freedoms – or at least what freedoms we still have.  Vigilance on our part is the only thing I'm reading as mandatory.

...and although the subject matter isn't really funny, your witty sarcasm is....my husband and I both enjoyed your tongue-in-cheek humor in this post. Will do further reading into this....if you hear of any groups getting together to fight this, please post it.

De-lurking to say...Wow! More of our tax dollars at work, huh? I'll have to make sure my in-laws know about this...they live on 85 acres and have more animals every time we visit. Knowing them, they have no idea. ::::scrambling back under the cover of lurkiness:::::

Jan. 24, 2006 - A Little Fun

Posted by Confessor
I think we ought to have a little fun with the government and this program.

I think I'll start planting the animal GPS locaters in all sorts of things. Cars, birds, put 'em in envelopes and mail them, sew them into people's clothes, all sorts of things! Wonder if I could staple them to ants....

I'll make sure to put enough of them out there so that there is such a density of signals, they won't be able to pick them apart.

Another alternative is to implant the GPS locaters as required and then cover them in copper foil. I will be adhering to the law and still stay distant from Big Brother.

Isn't there a nice, small island where they don't believe in too many laws we could all move to?

Jan. 30, 2006 - great...

Just when I want to START into life like this... (raising chickens - more eventually) they start regulating it. great.... Just like my dh freaking that they can make you pay to shoot a deer. They own the rights to EVERYTHING.... amazing. I am sure God would be so pleased to know who owns his wildlife.

Keep us updated and if I knew more about what you were talking I would do some calling too. But I just stumbled on your post and it is the first I am learning of it... not that I want to hear more...
