Seasons at Home

Calling all homeschoolers young and (old)! Our children are running a story page in our new magazine, Seasons at Home. This is a chance to let our children have yet another place to share their homeschooling creativity. They can contribute art, their stories or poems, science experiments, it's just endless! Our children would love to hear from yours! Gifts are given to our chosen contributors; Each time we will try to choose a different age appropriate 'homeschool' gift. We have two books, one for a boy and one for a girl (selections this time are for ages 8-12; unabridged and moral!) When a homeschooling mom or dad contributes, we will give ad space if you have a business or a bio, if you don't. The School Room section is a great place for any mom or dad contribution. Click to see more about the magazine or see 'Write For Us'
You can also just email me at ripe4harvest@msn.com
Spring issue deadline is Dec. 20th.

Grammar

Well, I'm on the search for an easier way to teach grammar.  I know there are numerous ways of doing this and I confess I've been burdened by textbooks.  As our number of children increases, I've seen them learn things that I know I haven't personally sat and taught them.  It must be from reading, in general, outloud and independently.  We have used Rod and Staff for years.  But with each child in a different book it gets tiresome for all parties!  I thought this morning after looking at the grammar and composition book I have from an Abeka program, that this is it.   I'm going to start using their real reading and copywork to teach grammar.  Whew! I'm feeling less pressure already.  I would love anyone's recommendations of simple books and helps in that area.  I mean simple!  I don't want a 20 book program on teaching from real books!!    Mother of 9 wants it's easy!

Off to morning, blessings, Theresa

Apr. 19, 2007 - I can't help there

But wanted to encourage the out of the box thinking for fun and love of writing. But I couldn't be specific, my oldest is merely 5. LOL I am not sure I plan on using a curriculum per se for that as much as I would be using beautiful books that my kids loved so it would be a joy for them to learn grammer, punctuation and the like while using material they knew and loved. I hope someone gives you some good suggestions!

Now KTNies use a simply program for english w/all the kids but what I do is this. We are doing Mystries of History that works for all kids. Then with a book list from a book about unit study I picked a book to read out loud. Now from this I look for field trip ideas or science. The Golden Goblet. There is a nieghbor who works with iron and to the jewerly store that makes jewerly in the store. Hope this helps. I have the unit study book but not in front of me. When we co-op we have 7 kids all together. If you want more ideas let me know.
