Hilo Homeschooling Conference

Posted in Big Island

Yes, Hilo is having their first Homeschooling Conference! I received this information about the conference today:

The Lighthouse HICHE group in Hilo is excited about helping to sponsor a homeschool conference January 5th & 6th.  Gregg Harris is coming here to speak to us from Oregon.  We just finalized everything and got the brochures and registration forms printed. Now we need to spread the word.  If you are interested in a brochure, please let me know.  I can e-mail you a PDF file or if you would like several for your church or group,  I can mail them to you.  If you know other groups whom I can contact, please also pass their information on to me.  Here are some of the details:

Dates:  Friday, January 5, 2007 at 7:00 pm - free  sessions open to the public with nursery provided
Saturday, January 6, 2007 from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm - open by registration only

Registration Costs:  $15.00 per individual or $25.00 per couple with early registration of $10.00 per individual or $20.00 per couple.  We will have box lunches available on Saturday for $6.00.  We are offering a children's program on Saturday as well, if you need help with that.

Location:  Hilo Missionary Church on Komohana Street in Hilo

Our featured speaker is Gregg Harris.  He is a homeschooling husband and father of seven children ages 6-adult.  He is the author of  The Christian Home School and father of Joshua Harris, author of I Kissed Dating Good-bye.  From 1981-1995 he presented nearly 20 homeschool seminars a year around the country.  Since 1995 he has been staying home more to be with his family and help pastor their local church. You can read more about him and his work at www.nobleinstitute.org.  The brochure has much more information about Gregg and his accomplishments in the homeschool community.  I am just mentioning a few here. We are very privileged to have him come see us as he hardly ever travels any more. I know he will be a great encouragement to those of us already homeschooling and can help answer questions for those just beginning or thinking about it.  The conference is open to everyone - you don't have to be homeschooling to attend.  We have tried to keep the cost to a minimum so that everyone interested can come.

I think that covers the basics.  Please call me (982-7371) if you have questions or would like more information.

Blessings,
Suzanne

UPDATE:  Another contact person for this conference is Sylvi Cook. Her phone number is 959-4268, and her email address is babyxiao@hotmail.com. If you would like a pdf file brochure emailed to you, Sylvi would be happy to send it along.
