Prayer and Carpets

The Lord sends the neatest encouragements!   The children and I have been working nearly non-stop on cleaning and packing to get this house ready to sell.   Today, it became evident that the Rug Doctor rental machine thing was great for exercise, but just wasn't giving the results we'd hoped for, so I reluctantly began calling professional carpet cleaners....one more thing to spend money on, i kept thinking.

Finally, there was a company willing to come out today - he kindly squeezed us into his busy day.   At the end of the cleaning (my, the carpets look great!) came the usual  "Do you accept a check?" etc. conversation.   However, to my astonishment, he handed me a business card and said,  "I also own a restaurant here in town.  What I want you to do is this:  take the children and go have a nice dinner at my restaurant, and we'll call it even for the carpets."

What was that again?

I must have looked dumbfounded, because he added, "I just think you all could use a break, and, well, I'm not going to miss any meals by not charging you for the carpets.  You just take the kids, and have a nice evening."  I thanked him through my tears..... and remained astonished.

What he didn't  know, is that he was an answer to prayer.  You see, this morning my eldest son and I were talking about things being tight financially, and i said, "John, it's all God's - we just need to ask Him how He wants His money spent, and trust that He'll take care of things."  We stopped together and prayed about finances.  Obeying what He has put before us (getting this house ready to sell) included the carpet cleaning.  We never would have thought in 100 years of this blessing!!  It strengthened my son's faith; what a precious gift.

So, we are all excited about our family date night -- especially fun after all the work the children have done.  This afternoon, we had another fun memory:  polishing the floors with our feet!  I cleaned the floors by hand (thanks, Geanine, for the wonderful homemade polish recipe!), and then the children helped me buff them out!

Sibling Skiing was next...!!

What a great day! :)  I love being a mom....

About the lady who called...

Well, there was a lady who had called on the house, then she and her young son were feeling a bit under the weather.  She was to call yesterday and hasn't.  Hmmm.  Perhaps the Lord used her to motivate us to get everything done?!  :)   We'll see.  It is sooo comforting to know EVERYthing is in His hands, and we can, well, go have a wonderful dinner together and celebrate His faithfulness!

Blessings,,

kim

Hi Kim!

I love your blog! I was just reading the carpet story to my husband :).

i am a clutter-y person too. I have really tried hard since we moved into this house to keep the clutter down and organized. It's always on the verge of getting out of hand. Something that helped me was the FlyLady. Just do a search and you will find her website. It is a house cleaning system, the only one that ever worked for me. Too bad I quit doing it, that is my other problem, laziness, lack of will power, whatever you want to call it. I do still use some of her ideas though, and they are so helpful. Here are a few of them:

The 27 thing fling. Once a week find 27 things to THROW AWAY.

Hot Spots- a couple times a day spend 5 min -set the timer!- cleaning a hot spot, which is just one of those areas where stuff tends to get piled up. For me that us just about any flat surface!

When cleaning set the timer for yourself in 15 min. increments. Work on the kitchen, and nothing but the kitchen, for that time. Then move on to the next room and do the same. Just cycle through the rooms over and over this way till they are done. This focused cleaning gets a lot more accomplished, and moving on after 15 m. keeps you from getting bored with that room. Every three rooms set the timer for a 15 m. break. If I don't set the timer, for that specific room, I find myself running in circles all over the house and not getting a whole lot done.

Have a blessed 2 weeks!

In Christ,

Amy

Reading your blog entry tonight helped to remind me so much that the Lord is looking after me and loving me even in the "letting go" of what felt like our dream home. We knew the finances would have to work out and He would have to do it.

As of today they haven't worked out so we told the seller we could not fulfill our contract.

I don't know how I feel. One minute I'm relieved and the next minute I'm heartbroken. This was a Promised Land type of experience for me and I was so excited to tell everyone of what God had done...just because He loves me. And I know He still loves me. That hasn't changed. But I'm sad and I'm hurting. It's hard to explain that all over a house.

But it wasn't just about the house but all God had given me in the "offering place". He was so encouraging and kept telling me to be strong. Maybe that was for this time, not the house dealings time. Maybe I'm supposed to be strong in the disappointment, in the sadness, in the confusion.
I am so thankful that He blessed you today with the carpet cleaner. Who would have EVER guessed. And how wonderfully creative He is to have used him to bless you.

Thank you God for taking care of this sweet mom today. Lord I need some encouragement too.
