I believe in freedom, and I also believe in the free-market. Capitalism is what has made this country great, and healthcare is a commodity, it's not a right. If we want healthcare to be a right, then one of two things has to become reality: either the government dictates healthcare or the church picks up the tab. The latter could happen and in a better world, would happen, but since it's not happening, and we deserve to be free to choose our medical doctors and medical doctors likewise should be free to practice according to the Hypocratic Oath, there is only one option--that healthcare is not a right. As you know, if you live in the USA and go into any hospital with a serious issue, you will be seen whether or not you can pay. There are signs all over stating this. Does this mean I believe our current system can't be improved upon? Absolutely not, there is always room for improvement. I think we need to have Tort reform so doctors can practice without the constant threat of being sued and so they can cut costs because their liability insurance cost will go down. We need to open the borders between states with healthcare making it more competitive, and there needs to be a greater focus on preventative medicine in this nation. We are far too accustomed to going to the doctor for every ailment be it physical, mental, or spiritual (though the latter is often disguised as a mental problem). I will never support socialized medicine in America. We have the highest paid physicians and the best, and I want that standard to remain. I believe it is wrong for the government to call any shots with healthcare. My MIL would be dead if the government was making decisions for her given her prognosis. We have enough trouble because of Medicare and how they don't trust medical doctors to be making the right decisions. Anyone supporting Obama's plan needs to talk to some folks already dealing with government officials calling the shots versus doctors. God forbid you come down with a serious disease that with prompt care or surgery would be healed. People die all the time in countries with socialized medicine for no other reason than the wait to be seen--in 8 months untreated cancer GROWS. Elderly patients will not get the same treatment as younger patients because socialized medicine recognizes it's inability to treat the masses, so it has a built in system of culling them. Net worth factors in greatly with what care you will and won't receive. I could go on, but here are some salient words from Ronald Reagan spoken in 1961 about the dangers of socialized medicine and how it is the key method of gaining control over a people.
