I've come to the realization this week that my kids aren't as proficient in their math skills as they should be. So, I've put a temporary hold on all other subjects besides math and language arts. This week we've basically done math, math, and more math.... and when they're so sick of it that they can't stand it anymore, we switch to something language related.

We've had to do this before, but only when I didn't have the time or sanity to plan anything else. This time, though, it's really for their own good. I know that there are more important things in life than math, believe me. I always stank (is that a word?) at math when I was in school. But, I believe that having a good foundation in math is important. Especially since my 5th grader has reached a point with his Switched on Schoolhouse math program where it's either back up and learn it, or quit the program, because he can't keep going until he GETS IT.

I have to admit that it's kind've a nice break for me, too. I'm sure we'll get back to regular school next week, though. But it is nice to be able to recognize the need for slowing down and reviewing, instead of constantly plowing ahead. Another bonus for homeschooling, huh?

That's what I love about homeschooling also. We can work at our own pace and review when we need to.

Funny how when you homeschool you can truly be sure that no child is left behind... ahhh the joy of flexible education. ;) Blessings, Michelle

*HUGS* I know how hard the "MATH Days" are. :) My kids equate math with medieval torture. So sad that it is a necessity.
We are working hard on it this year, too... and Morgan is getting better. I guess some years are feast and some are famine. Sometimes you have to wait until the 'lightbulb goes on'. I think that happened for M this year.
She bombed her Math on the exams last year and didn't do well at home, either. She still made a B on the entire test, though - because her other skills were so great. So I decided to move her on and go ahead and just work harder with her this year on it. Sometimes you just gotta make a call.

That's the beauty of homeschooling...focusing on what they need rather than what everyone else may be doing. Glad you feel the freedom to do this for your kids. Some are so tied to plans and curriculum that they are afraid to stop because they think they'll be behind. You go girl!
Blessings,
Missy

We've taken KONOS breaks too. Last year I seemed to have a better handle on things than I do this year. You'd think it would be the other way around. We're starting attentiveness officially in Jan. Just doing some small units now. Hope things all work out- homeschool flexibility is wonderful, isn't it?

That's great that you catered schooling to fit your children's needs. You're right-that is a bonus of homeschooling.
Hope you had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! Holly
