Homeschool Hi-Lights

Last week we began a unit on geology. I had really expected the children to complain about it being "boring", but to my surprise, they were actually excited about it. The hi-light of the week was our rock-hunting excursion. We didn't go far, and it certainly didn't take very long, but a good time was had by all. We brought home a bucket full of rocks to be cleaned and examined. A hidden lesson in the whole thing was my 4 year old lining up the rocks on the table and counting them several times. What good practice!

Looks like they are enjoying themselves. I think my daughter would have a fit if I said we were going to study geology. lol.

I just love how children can take a bucketful of rocks and turn it into learning experiences. Yesterday, my kids did that with melting snow, rocks, and sand. It's wonderful that it has warmed up and the kids can have more outdoor learning experiences.

Thanks so much for participating in the first edition of this meme. I'm going to keep it going right through summer, too. We don't officially homeschool during the summer. But there is still a lot of learning going on.

I have learned over the years that rocks are more than just rocks. They are treasures...valuable treasures that my children love.
