Amy, a homeschooling friend of mine wrote me today and asked...
Do you have any ideas for doing office work while home schooling? I dont have time set aside yet as we are still getting into our stride this first year. When I am free at night I am so tired that I think, Ill do it in the morning. But then I cant manage to get up early and get it done before we start school. Id be interested to know if you squeeze things in between your daily routine or if you set aside a few hours for administration.
I wrote back..
Hey Amy,
Gosh, I'm honored that you even asked me!! =] To be honest, the daily "home managment stuff" I have to try to keep up with it all the time....anytime I can. Sometimes I'm tackling a huge pile, sometimes I'm getting it done moment by moment. Honestly, with our trip to the DR (leaving this Saturday for a week), and leading two scout troops, I was just apologizing to the kids yesterday for being so "edgy" this week. =] I've been feeling a little stressed I guess....but I'm trying not to....I know the schedule won't get any easier before Christmas. And I really want the holidays to be "calm and collected". We'll see about that!! lolol
Anyway, I guess if I had to name a regular admin time (mainly for mapping out our school week...daily schedules for the kids, etc.), it would be sometime on Sunday. When my mind is in low gear. The hubby is either working outside or watching a race/football game, the kids are out running around, and I'm usually inside, puttering around the house in between putting my own feet up.
Ongoing strategy: pray, pray, pray!!! God will mulitply our time when we give it to Him first....I do believe that....forget it sometimes....but I always come back to remembering it....mainly because it works!! =]
Hope this all helps. I know it doesn't sound all that organized, but it works for us! =]
Does anyone have any other ideas to share?? Please do! This is a great question for all of us.
Deborah, I think you gave good advice. I too try to sneak things in anytime I can -- while DD is working on an assignment that doesn't require assistance, while she's doing a chore, and when she's asleep. I do get up before the family, but that time is mostly for my daily quiet time. I usually don't do "work" then. But I will just tell the family if necessary, "I need some time to work without interruption. Please find something to entertain yourself." Since my DD is 7, she's growing more and more independent. Nice, but where did the baby go??? It all happened so fast! Anyway, having an office/homeschool room helps too. Those kinds of "office" tasks can be done alongside DD as she does her studies.
Hi! Tatertots here. I REALLY like your blog, my sister (JB), said that you have a GREAT blog and I thought I would stop by and say hey. I hope you will stop by my blog soon.

Hi! My name is Deborah, and I want to thank you for taking a moment out of your busy day to visit Home For Him. I hope in some small way that you find encouragement and ideas for not only your homeschooling experience, but also your walk with God. I live in Kentucky with my Honey of 17 years, our three adventureous kids, and our small zoo of two dogs, a cat, a bird and three reptiles. Together, we have a heart for serving, and a love for studying God's Word and learning about His creation. Welcome to our world!
