I don't know what got into their heads, but the kids woke up Sunday morning with mud on the brain. lololol It was a still balmy day in the 50's, cloudy, with the threat of more rain. It had rained some through the night so the creek was up and there was water standing in the front yard. I let them have a mud fight a couple times over the summer, so they were thinking that this would be a good occasion for one...(shaking my head).
We were getting ready for the 11am church service, and they had started priming my husband upstairs before they came down to tell me that we had two choices. We could either have a mud fight in the back down by the creek, OR we could go on a bike ride in the rain. Ofcourse, since I HAD to choose, I immediately opted for the bike ride....the prospect of a mud bath on a cool winter day does absolutely nothing for me whatsoever!!
So, after a wonderful morning at church and a finger-food lunch, we headed out for a bike ride to the nearby park. This park has alot of woods and trails to bike on, so I was kindof looking forward to it. Bruce and I used to ride alot way back in the early days...before kids....no wait, that was before marriage....gosh, that was when we were dating!! 17 years ago???? What was I thinking????
Our bike ride became a trek for adventure....we rode a couple miles over to the park, and then wound our way back through the acres of wooded land, up and down hills, through a river, over rocks, across fields, and almost the entire time, IT RAINED!! We were drenched! Soaked all the way through! At one point, we stopped and my husband decided that THIS would be a good place for a mud fight. Sure enough, let the throwing begin and all three of the kids were drug through the mud puddles before the battle was over. I threw a few globs, but mostly ducked and covered! Not that I'm afraid to get dirty, ofcourse. My dh made sure I didn't make it home without a dirty face. =]
On our llooonnnngggg way home, it poured buckets. The rain was pelting our faces...the wind was whipping through our dripping locks of hair and I think the temperature dropped about 10 degrees!! We finally made it home about 3 hours later. I took a few pictures to prove our insanity plea, and we squished our way to the back door to strip and run for the shower!!
An hour later, we all sat snug as bugs in the living room with a movie. It was a day that will live forever in our history books!!
