Please praise God with us as we celebrate our daughters baptism. She's chosen Easter weekend to "take the plunge". And she's given me the honors.
Honored I am. She's been talking about it now for nearly two years. I know she's known the implications of it for atleast two years. But, we really wanted her to be ready in maturity as well. She's 10 years old. We have a class for 3rd graders and up at church called Beyond Belief. Kids can take it along with their parents. It covers all the basic of what it exactly means to give your heart to Jesus Christ, according to the Bible. It was good to take the class with her and refresh my own heart with the anchor verses of our salvation. I was so blessed to see her eagerly taking notes, answering questions, and reciting verses and the books of the Bible.
This week she can hardly be contained...not that she needs to be. lol She's singing worship songs and dancing about the house, giggling and giving spontaneous hugs and "I love you's.". It's really precious. And it makes me so excited for her. I feel like it's what we've really been preparing her for now for the last 10 years....for the moment to take on her faith as her own responsibility. Not that our job is over mind you, it's clearly not. But, it's more like one step closer to womanhood. And I'm thankful that it comes before the physical changes. It delights me to see her faith grow, and her walk with the Lord deepen. I can really invision her as an evangelist someday....if God wills it.
Something that makes it even more special for the both of us is the actual date. When we had talked to church a couple weeks ago and chose the Saturday evening service for her baptism, I didn't even think about what the specific date was. Then, this week when I realized it was the 7th, I couldn't wait to tell Sis. The 7th is the exact date that I was baptized 16 years ago!! lol Isn't that just a sweet God-thing? She was so blessed to hear that too. And in addition, we both share it with Bruce's moms birthday....which helped me to remember it myself through the years. =]
We have family coming into town beginning today. Momma Doris, Sis-in-law Pam and her hubby, and Brother-in-law William and his family. The kids are ecstatic to be spending some good quality time with their Western Kentucky cousins. It's been a long time for them.
In addition to Clara's baptism on Saturday, we're also excited about going to the Walk Through Jerusalem that our church is hosting that afternoon. It will be loaded with all kinds of living history, cultural enrichment, food of the times, and even an archery range. It's will add to an already wonderful celebration weekend.
This week has been a real special one as well with Holy Week.....more to come.
What exciting news. I teared up while reading your post thinking back on when my daughter was baptized the first time. Unfortunately we jumped the gun and didn't wait till she completely understood what her salvation meant. I think she was around 8 when she first was baptized. The when she was about 10, while she was doing her Bible lesson for school one day she came to me and said, "Mom, I don't think I'm saved!" Wow, talk about a shock. I was very glad that she realized this and we made sure that she completely understood before letting her get baptized again.
