I got this idea from Heth when she posted a recipe for Twinkie Ice Cream Cake. You can find that recipe if you go to her site (thank you Heth for sharing the recipe). I think it would be a great treat too! However one of my husband's all time favorite treats are the Hostess Ding Dongs . I thought it would be neat to adapt the recipe to fit his taste. Here's my recipe for:
Ding Dong Ice Cream Cake
Ingredients:
1pkg Oreo cookies
1pkg Hostess Ding Dongs
1/2 gal each chocolate & vanilla ice cream
1 tub cool whip
1 can cherry pie filling
Hershey Syrup
1/4lb real butter
For the crust:
crush oreos to oblivion,
toss in a large baking pan, pour on 1/4lb real butter,
smash cookies (some more) and melted butter with fork
mix real well, pat out flat into shape of crust
For the cake:
Spread 1/2 gallon softened chocolate ice cream over crust
Cut 8 ding dongs in half and layer them till they are spread out evenly
Spread softened cool whip onto ding dongs and just the middle of cake
Using mixer combine rest of ding dongs with 1/2 gallon softened vanilla
Spread vanilla ice cream mixture on top of cool whip till even
Top with hershey syrup
Freeze for a long time or just to your liking ;)
Spoon cherry pie filling on top and top with more hershey syrup
Last but most importantly......Enjoy!
This made a big hit tonight! The children and I came walking out of the kitchen singing Happy Birthday and carrying this yummy treat. His eyes really lit up! And it turned out real delicious!
