Elementary School Snapshot

((Thanks to a very special friend! She has given me much support and encouragement!))

Today the kids did sentences and basic math drill & practice. They had to make correction on their sentences. We do this to Thursday and the final papers have to be turned in Friday. We also have a spelling test this Friday.

Our word list for the week is:

Fall

rake

turkey

leaf

leaves

corn

geese

orange

yam

chilly

trees

scarecrow

harvest

pumpkin

hay

chili

cornbread

orchard

autumn

brownies

pie

they

them

their

They do 3x each Monday and sentences throughout the week. This week we have added verbs to our sentences. They seem to understand adjectives quite well. Adding verbs and understanding how verbs work is our newest goal. .We continue improving handwriting as well. And on Friday we bring it together. This is for our children who are 8,8,8, & 11. They also help make up the spelling list for each week we do spelling.

Here are sentence examples taken from one child (8) uncorrected and a few that need no correction:

I like the brown crunchy leaves.

My family is going to get a pumpkin.

The pie was good. (what kind of pie?)

Mother said she would feed the horses hay.

Grandma has an orchard on her farm.

Father made brownies for dinner.

During the week we also have had out science and history books and videos. That we watch and read at random. This week the children have been doing the 2 mile walk with Leslie Sansone and Debbie Austin on video. We have ridden our bikes to the store & library several times. And we have walked several times there as well. They spent their own money supporting the families food budget last week. No one has any money left this week. They made $40 to stretch for 5 days to supplement what we had and what we needed. It was an experience in money and budgeting. They took their own money from their piggy banks and combined it. They made a short list of extra stuff we needed for each day. And each day they rode their bikes the 2 miles round trip to get the goods. It was fun to watch them learn.

ok...So that's my pop in and out, lol! There's no spell checker or editor here and I didn't bother to do either this time. Hope you can understand and it's 2 am and I'm tired. Tomorrow starts at 5am.  Night!

It sounds like you've accomplished a lot. I'm not good with getting spelling accomplished, I really need to be better with that. And I can't believe how many miles you've done. Wow, that is a lot. Keep up the good work. :)
