Home Education & Me
Good Afternoon Friends & Family! I pray that you are all having a great day in The Lord. It has been a really good day here on the homestead. School has finished for the day and we are ready for the weekend.
We had a great time at Homegroup yesterday. We got rained out at the park and ended up doing our yearly planning in a members van.
We only had three families show up yesterday because the others had previous engagements. I'm glad that it was a small group yesterday, otherwise we wouldn't have all fitted into the van.
I am really proud of the 4 children we had. They played in the back of the van for almost 3 hours while we parents discussed the upcoming school year and what activities we wanted to plan. They were ALL so good with no complaints at all. Now that says a lot for our kids. Homeschooled kids are more ready to adapt to whatever their circumstances!
My DD (15) wanted to stay home by herself this time. So I let her have some "alone" time while at the meeting. My other DD (18) had to go to work. I am so going to miss her this year at our Home group meetings. I have no doubt that when the time comes that she will be able to Homeschool her children for the glory of God.
DD (18) has been my "guinea pig," so to speak when it comes to Homeschooling. I have also learned that each one of my children has different needs and different ways of learning. So what has worked with one doesn't mean it will work for the other. Trial and error, prayer and more prayer.
I am so thankful that I have the blessing of teaching my children and not having to hand them over to others for 7 hours a day.
I get the privledge of seeing them grasp a concept for the first time. I got the privlege of teaching my son (9) to read. I got the blessing of seeing my Dd FINALLY grasp Algebra and move onto geometry all by herself.
I also get the privledge of seeing my children grow daily in their walk with The Lord.
It's not always easy. There are days when I think, "they need to get on that bus and let "the professionals" deal with them. Well, God made me their Mom and that's as "professional" as it gets. He who has called me will be faithful.
Most importantly though is what I have learned over the past 9 years. God has used this Homeschoolinhg experience to shape and mold me as well as my children. Being around one's children ALL of the time really makes you realize just what an example you are. The good and the ugly!
All of my strength comes from My Lord though. It's The Lord that I cry out to daily and I am so thankful that He is always there no matter what the situation. He has shown me time and time again that it needs to be Him that I need to turn to when a problem arises. Homeschooling will really make you see problems and issues that might be easier left to another, but ultimately better left to the professional, Jesus Christ!
To God be the glory now and forever!
Bless all who pass this way!

Following God's Word~ No Turning Back!
Good Morning Family & Friends! We had what I would call an "off" day yesterday around here. It started out with good intentions, things just kept going down hill though. Praying for a better day and another day to praise His name!
Dd has been doing really well with her FAR studies. This week she has been chronicling the lives of women in the Old Testament. She is studying about different women in different books and how they served God. How were they faithful to God? What were their daily activities like? What was it about them that made God pen their names in His word?
All of these women showed such strength and courage in following God. Obedience was the main theme in these women's lives. I pray that can be said of my life and that of my daughters. That is what I strive daily to teach my children. (oh, how satan loves to trip me up though.)
I did not grow up in a Christian home. I was about as heathen as a person can be without Christ. I was saved about 15 years ago. So everything that I have learned in the past 15 years and (more even recently) has been sort of "trial & error" where it concerns my children. It's like what my Pastor said the other morning. He said that when we are saved, we still have some really bad habits in our lives that need to be changed. Ways of thinking that are contrary to God's word (thinking like the world) that needs to be brought under the authority of Christ.
I said that to say this. Bringing every thought captive to The Word of God WILL change your life! It has mine and I am so thankful that The Lord has shown me this. It affects every aspect of your life and how you do things. From the places I go, to the education my children receive. That's the point I am trying to make here.
Whenever a decision is made in the life of my children, I have to look to The Word of God and see what it says. What does it say about men, women, mothers, daughters, sons, fathers? What does it say about the way I dress? The way I worship? The way I educate my children? So much to consider and so much to learn.
What I have also learned lately more than anything is that TOTALLY leaning on Christ and using the Bible as your guide will make you an object of ridicule and scorn for the choices you are making.
ALL because you choose to serve God and NOT man.
Father please give me strength when those trials come and help me to remember that no matter what, you are in control. I also need to remember that when those trials come, you are the one letting them come. For your glory and honor.
To God be the glory, now and forever! Amen!
Bless all who pass this way!

Pondering Scripture ~ Obedience & Roles
Good Morning Family & Friends~
I have to start this day giving praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! He has allowed me to get out of my bed and spend another day serving my family and those whom He brings into my path. This is something that I have drilled and drilled into my children's heads
. I am starting to see the some fruit from my labor. (Thank you Jesus!)
I am probably going to get 'deeper" into thought here on this blog than I usually do. There just seems to be so much going on in my life and that of my daughters that I feel compelled to let others see what The Lord has been showing me for the past few years.
My Dd (18) is having a difficult time right. It seems to be a spiritual battle. Having just graduated from highschool and having no definate direction to go, she is confused. Her confusion comes from "looking" at others lives and comparing her life to theirs. (BIG mistake!) Her mistake comes from "listening" to the world and not listening to The Savior. I can understand her worries, I was once there too. Being her Mom though makes it tough when I know that she is going through a time of "trial" in her young life.
The trials I speak of are coming from others who speak their mind too freely without any thought of their words. Some are well intentioned others are not. I told DD that she just needs to compare what "others" are saying against scripture.
I have continually strived to teach my DD's that being a woman of The King is your HIGHEST priority. I have (and am still) teaching them to be Proverbs 31 women, NOT women of this world. Whenever you go by The Scriptures as your life's pattern, you are going to have trials. Those trials come because the world's ways and Christs ways are NOT, nor will ever be the same.
If we go by the pattern of scripture and what it says concerning women, the ways are going to be absolutely foreign to those who know not The Lord. It will also be foreign to those who say they know Him, but are following the examples of the world and not that of Scripture. Isn't that the problem though? Being Christians and thinking like non Christians? Trust me, I was there not so long ago until Sweet Jesus got a hold of my heart (OUCH!) and let me know that it is HIS word that counts, not the world's.
That being said, you can definately be assured that I am raising my daughters totally different from the world. The Bible emphasizes roles that are different for men and women. He made us, he ought to know what He had planned from the beginning.
So I have been studying scripture and the examples it gives about women. Who were the godly ones? What made them that way? Where did their strength come from? How were they able to stand against their foes and live completely and totally unyielding to God?
The examples are tremendous! They lived simple lives, took care of their families and spent time serving God. They were not out to "prove" themselves as the world says you must do today. They didn't have a piece of paper that said they were accomplished. They had their FAITH! They had The Lord! What more can I possiably teach my DD's?
I want my daughters to follow Scripture. I want them to go to scripture for their "career path." When all is said and done, a piece of paper and all of our hard work (done for ourselves) will not honor God. Being found faithful in serving others, obeying His commandments, and putting Him first in ALL is what counts. It's not popular, its not worldly, it's Christ and the example that he has left us with.
Seach ye the scriptures. What does it say about our daughters? What does it say about our sons? What does it say about Mothers? What does it say about Fathers? What does it say about servants?
What saith the scriptures? What do the Scriptures say about "how" to raise daughters? It says to teach them to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, KEEPERS OF HOME, good, obedient to their husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. (Titus 2:4 & 5)
That is what I teaching my daughters. I am not teaching them that they must have a degree to be an accomplished woman. Being an accompolished woman is following Scripture and going against the world in order to serve God. It's NOT about money and recognition. It's about being a servant as Christ was to bring others to a saving knowlege of Him.
But, But! How will she??? Fill in the blank. Is not Christ the ruler of this earth? Did He not make the world in 6 days? Does He not hold this world in the palm of His hand? Did He not know me (you) from the beginning of time? Where is the FAITH people? HE wrote what He did in His word for a reason. He knows the right way! He is almighty God, Lord of all! How can anyone EVER go wrong when raising their children to OBEY word of God? You can't go wrong.
In the end, I want my children to follow God and not the world. I also want them to realize that they will meet opposition when obeying God. Opposition from the world and from those who say they are of God. Again, search ye the scripture and see how wonderful He is.
So radically different, but so radically God's plan! How good is my God! How good He is to me! Praise His name, praise Him always! To God be the glory now and forever! Let my thoughts be ever towards you! Let my ways follow your word! Let me ever praise You SWEET LORD for saving my soul and changing my heart! I LOVE you Sweet Jesus! Amen!
Bless all who pass this way!

Counting The Cost For Christ

Good Morning Fellow Home Educators~
It's been a while since I last penned anything down on this blog. We have been busy getting into the "swing" of school at last. We have managed to stay on course getting 4 days a week done. I had planned earlier in the year to do a 4 day week instead of a traditional 5 day week. It has been working out really well so far. We will still have our 180 days in by the end of May 2009 and complete (Lord willing) all of our books for the year.
My Dd's Far studies have been going well. It takes a lot more planning on my part, but it is well worth the time. I know that everything she is learning from the Bible will be a seed planted in her heart. I will pray continually that The Lord will bring that "seed" into full maturity in His time, for His will and purposes.
DS has also gotten into the "swing" of school. He has been doing really well with his math. The first few days he went into "melt down." His summer break was too long and he had to "reprogram" his brain to remenber simple math concepts that he had forgotten.
He is back on track now and going full speed ahead!
My other DD (18) will be starting the College Plus prgram in a few months. College Plus is a program that allows a student to CLEP out their college credits without all of the usual time and money spent and a regular college. CLEP's are tests taken that give you college credit in the basic classes that are expected by colleges no matter what your major is.
DD (18) still does not know what to major in. The Lord has just not lead her in any particular direction at this time. I tell her to just keep praying and seeking God's will and He will lead her as she is faithfull and obedient in her every day tasks.
What I can honestly say is that my Dd (18) is following The Lord. You can't say that about many 18 year old's today. I am also sad to say that she has been ridiculed for her choices as well. The ridiculing has been aweful lately. I know that it is only satan trying to get her off of the "narrow path."
It can be so hard and lonely when you choose to serve Jesus Christ. I know that my DD has been lonely because of her choices, I also know that God will bless her because of her choices. I know that she has grown so much in the past few years into a woman of God. (NOT perfect, just growing and seeking to serve The Lord.")
I can't help it if people don't understand the "ways" or "whys" of what we as a family do. I can only do what The Lord has told me to and that is to teach those ways to my children and continue as a soilder for Christ.
Please pray for our young adults, we some times forget how hard it is to be young and stand for Christ all alone. (I know I have.) I am so proud that my DD's are willing to stand up for Christ with their actions and speech. It can be lonely nevertheless.
I will just continue to praise God for His work in their lives and I know that He has a plan for His children. God is ALWAYS so good and His name is to be forever exalted. No matter what the cost!
To God be the glory forever and ever! Amen!
Bless all who pass this way!

Courtship? Dating? What's A Christian To Do?
It looks to be a BEAUTIFUL day in The Lord. I noticed last night that the temperature was cooler in the evening than it had been. So I opened the windows last night and put the fans in. It was actually cold in the house this morning.

Makes me long for autumn all the more.
I found a good site that explains courtship/dating. http://www.lyndacoats.com/?page_id=42- It seems relavent at this time in my DD's lives. People are always asking "why" don't they have a boyfriend? Why don't they date? Why? Why? Why?
This site just explains the "whys" better than I can. All can say is that when The Lord sees that my DD's are ready for a marriage that will glorify Him, He will do it in His time and not mine. Definately not the world's timing or way.
I just have to trust and have faith that He already knows who He wants for my DD's future husbands.
What I do know is that I am praying for my DC's future spouses and their family. Praying that my DC's marriages will glorify God in all that is said and done.
To God be the glory, now and forever! Amen!

Plain Path Publishers (Great Devotional Materials)
Good Afternoon Fellow Home Educators! I decided to post some information on the Devotional curriculum that we are using in the mornings. It is called Christian Character. You can go here for a sample of the material.
http://www.plainpath.org/store/index.php?pid=4204834&PageID=4&act=cart-showpage-
We started using it on Monday and I LOVE it. It deals with the character traits of Jesus and it lets you examine your heart through the activities. There are so many Bible verses to reference with. I am absolutely thrilled to have found this.
The first weeks lesson is on compassion. How did Jesus show others compassion? How do we show others that we have a heart for Christ while showing compassion? Really great material!
This devotional can be used alone or with a group of people. . We spent the first 3 days just going over the introduction as to what character is in a Christian's life and how Jesus expects us to have a heart like His through the way we treat others while showing His characteristics. (that was definately a run on sentence.)
I am so blessed to have found it!

Far Above Rubies Links & Plans (Some Anyway)
http://www.geocities.com/trishnonaka/FAR_intro.htm- This is a site that I found that explains some of the units. It was constructed by a woman who used it with her daughter. It contains a lot of links that might be helpful for you or your daughters.
I think it uses the older version of FAR. (I am currently using the older edition.) It has Units 1-20 divided into 4 books. Units 1-5, Units 6-10, Units 11-15 and Units 16-20. (These each have smaller sub units to which your DD can choose from.)
I am currently using FAR for DD's Bible and History as well as some practical Art ideas. It can be confusing at times because there is so much to choose from.
I had DD mark the sub units that she would be interested in doing. (Wouldn't you know that she chose very little of what I wanted her to learn.)
Well, its a start anyway.
I can honestly say that the more I look through the units, the more I like it. There is a question as what to do if your daughter is not self-motivated (likes being spoon fed.) It is said that this will help her learn to be self motivated. It teaches daughters to be dilligent among other Christ like characteristics. Practice makes perfect!
I'll post more on the plans that I have for DD tomorrow. So much to do and so little time.
Bless all who pass this way!

A Speech That Should Have Been Heralded Throughout The Land
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, May 8, 2008, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:
' Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. !
'The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA , the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.
'In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.
I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy, it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.
Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question 'Why?'
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!
'Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And, when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs, politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.
'As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School , prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA, I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!'
Do what the media did not - let the nation hear this man's speech . . Please send this out to everyone you can.. GOD BLESS.
To God Be The Glory!

Far Above Rubies- A New Curriculum For A New Year

Good Afternoon Fellow Homeschoolers! We are officially starting back to "school" tomorrow. I have most of everything that I need. I will be starting a new curriculum with my Dd (15). It is called Far Above Rubies. It is a curriculum that focuses on God and my DD's relationship with Him through all that she studies. HE is the "center" her education.
It also focuses on teaching my DD to become a Proverbs 31 woman. (wheather she marries or not.)
It takes the verses from Proverbs 31 and breaks them down into "study units." It then goes into great details on various subjects within subjects for her to study. It has a heavy focus on The Holy Bible.
That is a great subject to stay focused on!
This is very new to me. I am so used to worktexts/textbooks. After all these years and a lot of praying this past year, The Lord led me to FAR. It has so many subjects that deal with everyday life and how to put God's word at the forefront of all learning. I can't wait to get started.
I want to use this blog as "lesson planner." Logging daily activities of what DD is working on and the materials she will be using. I just made up the first weeks lesson plans for her and will post them tomorrow for the week.
For those of you who think that she won't be getting a "real education," Think again!
True education starts with God's word and what He has to say on every subject. She will come to know through extensive writing and research projects that God is at the heart of all learning. It will not be the "world's" way of learning, but God's.
Bless all who pass this way!

A Birthday, Alot of Books & Some Schooling Too

We Gave her a gift certificate to Christianbook.com and she chose nothing but books as her gifts. Now that is a REAL Homeschool girl.
It turned out that she had just the right amount of money to order the last 6 books she needed to complete 2 seperate series. (I decided on an amount that was not much) It was just enough for her gifts though (and I didn't know it.)
Not much going on here lately. I have not been out much due to a lack of funds. Hubby's hours are going down, so I have to make the most with what I have. The gas fund is down from $50 a week to $25 a week. That pretty much gets us to and from church 3 times a week and the grocery store and library once a week. (we live about 30 miles from the big county library and also Wal Mart. That 30 miles goes fast when in the gas tank.)
DS (9) is doing a little school this week, not much. He chose to start spelling, science and history. We will start his math and Bible/Reading and English next week. DD (10th) will start everything next week. We are about 2 weeks behind starting this school year. That's okay though. After 8 years of home educating, I have finally learned that I do what is best for my family. Home Education offers me so much and I am so thankful for the blessing of teaching my kids for the glory of God!
Bless all who pass this way!

The NEA Is NOT About Education It's About Indoctrination!
http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=70464-
If only Christians parents would see what 13 years in a secular enviroment is really doing to their kids. It's Babylon in America! Ideas, not education! Let us look ONLY to scripture for our guideance and never be ashamed to proclaim the truth! God's Word NOT the world! In Your Sweet Name Jesus!
Father please open the eyes of your children and forgive me for keeping mine shut for so long!
Bless all who pass this way!

A Heart For Home- An Introduction
Good afternoon Fellow Home Educators! I have finally decided to use this blog space to chronicle my Homeschooling journey. We are starting our 9th year of Home educating this year. We just graduated our first child this past May. That is a picture of me and my Dd (17) at a church fellowship for her and the other graduates.
I still have two others that I will be educating at home. A DD (15) in the 10th grade and a DS (9) in the 4th grade. We have used a variety of curriculum over the years and have been truly blessed with the other people that the Lord has bought into our lives on this journey.
The one thing that I have learned over the years is to trust The Lord for all of my needs. Homeschooling was not really something that I enjoyed at the beginning. (It has a way of showing you who you really are when you have to spend all of your time with your kids.) The Lord has really used it to shape me and mold me (for the better I pray)
. It's an ongoing process that that has its good days and its bad.
I know that this journey was in His plans from the beginning. It has been truly amazing to see Him meet my every need and that of my children. He is an AWESOME GOD THAT SHOULD EVER BE PRAISED!
The most important lesson that The Lord has taught me is to trust Him fully! Academics aside, what should a man gain he if gains the whole world and loses his soul? He must come first in all! (Please forgive me Father when I fail to remember that!)
To God be the glory, now and always!
Bless all who pass this way on their journey towards Him!
