Good Afternoon Fellow Homeschoolers! We are officially starting back to "school" tomorrow. I have most of everything that I need. I will be starting a new curriculum with my Dd (15). It is called Far Above Rubies. It is a curriculum that focuses on God and my DD's relationship with Him through all that she studies. HE is the "center" her education.
It also focuses on teaching my DD to become a Proverbs 31 woman. (wheather she marries or not.)
It takes the verses from Proverbs 31 and breaks them down into "study units." It then goes into great details on various subjects within subjects for her to study. It has a heavy focus on The Holy Bible.
That is a great subject to stay focused on!
This is very new to me. I am so used to worktexts/textbooks. After all these years and a lot of praying this past year, The Lord led me to FAR. It has so many subjects that deal with everyday life and how to put God's word at the forefront of all learning. I can't wait to get started.
I want to use this blog as "lesson planner." Logging daily activities of what DD is working on and the materials she will be using. I just made up the first weeks lesson plans for her and will post them tomorrow for the week.
For those of you who think that she won't be getting a "real education," Think again!
True education starts with God's word and what He has to say on every subject. She will come to know through extensive writing and research projects that God is at the heart of all learning. It will not be the "world's" way of learning, but God's.
Bless all who pass this way!

Aug. 3, 2008 - Just Saying Hi
I am new to blogging here, and as I was searching around the neighborhood, I came upon your blog. I just had to stop in because your blog title drew me in. Home IS where the heart is.
You are getting ready to begin a new school year. We are fixin' to end one. We school through the summer and then take September/October off. So we have 3 and a half more weeks of this school year, and then we'll start afresh in mid-to-late October.
And as for traditional textbook curriculum, we all have to do what the Lord has put upon our hearts, and NO ONE can ever tell us that we're not doing what God wants us to do. I mean, is God going to tell me how he wants you to educate your children?
I, too, have not used traditional textbook curriculum. We have done a more Charlotte-Mason style approach. And my children HAVE learned. And as we focus on character training, which is far more important than any academic subject, I think He is pleased.
Blessings on your year with Far Above Rubies.

Hi. I've been enjoying both of your blogs. I know what it's like to live far from the grocery store and Wal-Mart. I just wrote a post a couple of days ago about my experience with Sam's and Wal-Mart. We also have to limit gas and grocery money. Also, I'm going to look further into the FAR curriculum. My oldest daughters are now 14 and 13. Thank you for your blogs. They are a blessing.

I will be a regular reader of this blog. I am starting FAR on Monday with my dd who is almost 13. I am excited. I have not used a unit study with her since she was in the first grade but after much prayer the Lord led us to this curriculum. It came in the mail this past Friday and we are so excited!!!
