Good Afternoon Family & Friends! This morning has flown by so fast. We got a late start on the schoolwork today. The children are moving along nicely today. No major complaints, yet.![]()
Dd (15) is still working with her FAR units nicely. She has been memorizing Proverbs 31. To memorize it, I have been having her copy verses 10-31 once a day. That is her copywork as well as her Bible lesson for the day.
She keeps asking me how long she will have to keep copying it. I told her as long as it takes to MEMORIZE it dear daughter!
She has been at it for about 2 weeks (or 8 school days.) It's coming along nicely I believe.
She will have to repeat the first module in Biology.
The rule in the house is that you must score at least an 80% on your tests to be able to move to the next module/chapter. She doesn't like the idea very much. The point of an education is to learn, not just "get through" the material. It may mean a longer school year, but The Lord has given us all the time we need when we just focus on Him and glorify Him with whatever we do.![]()
DS(9) has also been moving along nicely with his work. He is on lesson 20 in his Saxon Math 54 book. He is also doing well with his other subjects.
Here is our schedule (most of the time)-
We start devotions after breakfast & chores between 8:30 and 9:00. After devotions DS starts with his Rod & Staff 4th reader. (that is his Bible/Reading for the day.) He then does math, literature, spelling, Rod & Staff English, A/O History and then A/O Science. He is usually done about 2:00 or 3:00.
DD does her FAR Bible lesson first. She then does whatever she "feels" like doing. Her subjects are Apologia Biology ,BJU Pre-Algebra, Literature, (John Bunyuns' Holy War) U.S. History (finishing up a unit on vikings.) I haven't gotten any English for her yet in the way of grammar. I am focusing on her writing compositions on her literature studies and FAR studies. She is usually done about 2:00. She also has to practice piano for 30 minutes a day.
The children are pretty much independent in their schoolwork. I give them a lesson plan for the day and they are expected to follow it. They come to me if they can't figure out the concept of the day. I do encourage them to "figure out" the lesson before they come to me. It teaches them to take responsibility for their own work.
This is the first year of teaching my son how to work independently. He has been doing a really good job.
He knows what he has to do and does it. He must complete 3 subjects before he can take a 20 minute break. The same goes for DD. I am really proud of their effort to learn for themselves without having to be "spoon fed" so to speak. It truly is an accompolishment to teach one to take responsibility for one's self.
Well, I need to go and get lunch started. Have a blessed day! Happy Homeschooling!
