Thursday, August 17, 2006 - Home With the New Puppy, Finally! |
| Posted in True-Life Tales |
We had a fun day in Minneapolis yesterday (I'll have to write about that later) and left early this morning with our fluffy little bundle. He travelled great (except he wasn't overly fond of his carrier for the maybe 15 minutes I was able to let go of him to put him in it) and had no accidents or mishaps.
I should be in bed, but I'm staying up just a bit longer to make sure he's settled in for the night. He's been crying off and on for about a half hour now, but it's a little shorter each time he starts up again. I know he's exhausted and will go to sleep eventually. At least I hope so!
Since I'm still up, I thought I'd share a few pictures that I took after we got home. I am pleased to introduce you to the newest member of our family, Fletcher (or Fletch, as the kids like to call him).

Isn't he a sweetie? He looks so much like a Shih Tzu, I'm really having trouble seeing the poodle in him. He did do a few 'circus' tricks for us today, so it must be in there somewhere! And he is so soft, it's hard not to keep touching him all the time.
Here he is shortly after we arrived home. Tired puppy!

He likes the nice soft blankie I made for him on the spur of the moment
with some fabric scraps I had. One side is kind of a velour knit and
the other is flannel. Super toasty, but light weight. Which is a good
thing for a little guy - I think he's about 9 inches long including his
tail. He weighs nothing at all! We'll find out the actual stats at
his puppy check with the vet tomorrow.
And, last one for tonight - I believe this is the look you get when you've taken WAY too many pictures and the dog is pleading for you to please stop so he can see again. What can I say? It's hard to get a good shot of a dog with a dark furry face!

The blue thing in the foreground is a toy I made for him, again out of fabric scraps. It's made out of strips of kind of a non-fuzzy sweatshirt material. He loves it! It's a good replacement when he starts chewing on shoestrings. I may need to make another one with skinnier strips and various colors. He really has fun with it and thinks he's big stuff carrying that and his rope around. Way too cute - I'll have to try to get a picture of that. This one has a big personality, I think!
That's it for now. He's been quiet for a bit so I think it's safe to go to bed now. I'll try to update again - and maybe even share some thoughts on non-puppy related items one of these days! *Gasp!* Hopefully we'll be back in the swing of things and getting back on our schedule as we rev back up into full-on school mode.
Thanks for humoring me with my puppy brags! :-)

He is a doll!
I think you needed a puppy so you could dust off your sewing skills :)
Hope to see more pics soon!

What a cute puppy! My 3 year old, Phoebie, looked at him and said, "We don't scream or nothing at that puppy because he is much too cute!"
Congrats on the addition!

Wow, is he cute. Found you as I was blogsurfing and thought I'd say hello... and wow, is he cute :). I always wanted a dog but it didn't quite fit our lifestyle... twelve kids are enough to feed, and we traveled too much.
Hope you have a great day!
