Posted in Homeschool Helps

I received this information today and thought it might be helpful to some of my readers. :-)

http://www.learninga-z.com/

Access to Thousands of FREE Resources During Teacher Appreciation Week

We all owe much of our success in life to teachers everywhere. We at Learning A–Z want to thank educators the best way we know how—by opening up access to our websites. Last year during Teacher
Appreciation Week, we held an Open House that provided FREE access to ALL of our educational websites. Response was so overwhelming that we are going to do it again, and for even longer!

Explore Six Websites Bursting with Materials

Each day during this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5–9, plus May 12, Learning A–Z will open one of its six password-protected websites. This will allow teachers to leisurely explore all of Learning A–Z’s resources, including our newest website for differentiated instruction, Science A–Z.

We invite teachers everywhere to sample the Internet-delivered books, lessons, activities, and worksheets—for FREE.

Enjoy Six Days of FREE Access
The websites will be open on the days indicated below, from midnight to midnight Central time.

Thursday, March 27, 2008 - Latest additions to my website

Posted in Homeschool Helps

I thought I'd post an update of some new items on my website for anybody who might find them helpful.  I've been busy!

Eye Spy! Vision Lapbook - How to make a lapbook about vision, including optical illusions.

Lapbooks For Everyone - Our first lapbook and resources to help you make yours with children of any age!

Also, some free printables for notebooking (and maybe lapbooking, too) can be found on the Fun Stuff page:

  • In the Geography section, there are pages for recording information about any country in the world.
  • In the History section are blank basic timeline pages and a continent legend page.

I have plans to add many more articles and printables in the near future.  As my kids are getting older, I’m finding there are more and more topics that I can add to my site.  So, stay tuned for more!

Posted in Homeschool Helps

Are you looking for some fun things to go along with the "Horton Hears a Who!" movie or the original Dr. Seuss book?  I have a mini-unit on my website that might help you out!

This could easily be turned into a lapbook, too.  Wink

Friday, January 12, 2007 - Link to an Excellent Post

Posted in Homeschool Helps

I don't normally 'borrow' others posts to make entries on my blog, but this one is so good, I just have to share it with you.  I think the more that see it, the better.  Thanks to Kendra at Preschoolers and Peace for writing it!

Although this is primarily directed toward others who are not homeschooling and don't get it, it is also a great reminder for us as we try to do all and be all for everybody.  We have the same number of hours in our day as everybody else does and I'm sure I'm not alone when I say we need to start cutting ourselves some slack!

Please read this post, What Non-Homeschoolers May Not Know, and pass it on to anyone you think needs to see it.  It is so true!

Sunday, May 21, 2006 - I just love bargains...and boy, did I get some! (pic)

Posted in Homeschool Helps

I've heard about the Scholastic teacher warehouse sales but hadn't made it to one yet - until Friday.  Oh. My. Word.  There was so much stuff there.  All 50% off the list price or as marked.  And it wasn't only Scholastic brand items, either. They had kid books, adult books, activities, kits, software...  I'm telling you, I was like a kid in a candy store.

I was given a budget.  I had a coupon for $10 off of $50, so I was to try to keep it as close to $50 as possible.  I also had a time budget which I totally blew.  I mean, it was a LOT of stuff to look at.  I actually prayed that if there was something I should see, that I'd see it because there was no way I could look at everything.  Especially being 'short statured', I couldn't even see what was on some of the shelves.

OK, so take a look at everything I got.

Guess how much I spent.  Just guess.  Yes, I DID stick to my budget.  I got everything you see above for $43.  That includes $3 tax and is after my $10 coupon.  Isn't that awesome?  I get giddy thinking about it. I did get some things for cheaper than 50% off because I got several items in the scratch & dent area - those items were $1!

I figured up how much this all would have cost me at full price.  It would have been something like $177 plus tax.  So I saved about $137 (assuming I would have bought the items at full list price, which I rarely do, LOL).  Supreme giddiness!

Okay, who is proud of me?  Besides myself, that is. :-)  Oh, and get this.  After I got home and told my husband about the stuff I didn't get, he told me that I should go back and get more stuff!  I think that means he was impressed.

In case anybody else gets excited about this kind of thing, you simply must see if you have a warehouse sale near you.  Sign up online and get a Fast Pass.  You won't have to sign in at the sale plus you get that 10 off 50 coupon.  I'm sure all the locations have different items so your results may vary - but from what I saw, it's worth checking out!

Scholastic Warehouse Sales

Now for the hard part. Keeping it all under wraps to dole out gradually.  It's like Christmas in a box and my kids do NOT need all that stuff all at once.  I'll use most of it for school, so I have to restrain myself until the time is right.  But I really want to play with some of it!  :-)
