Saturday, December 9, 2006 - Let Them Be Little |
| Posted in Lyrics as Poetry |
I was perusing the recent blog entries tonight and came across this post from Judy at Sur Cum Corda. I'm sure many of you have heard this song before, but I don't listen to country music, so I hadn't heard it yet. Don't worry, it's not *too* country, for those like me. :-) I can definitely use this reminder - often. I know my boys are definitely growing up too fast. So I decided I'd post the lyrics here for future reference - mine or anyone else's. The video is neat, too, so either view it at the blog I linked to above, or you can also »» Click Here to Watch the Video ««. The video does add a lot to the song, so take a look at it if you can. Let Them Be Little (Richie McDonald/Billy Dean)
I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand You felt so good in it, no bigger than a minute How it amazes me, you're changing with every blink Faster than a flower blooms they grow up all too soon. So, let them be little 'Cause they're only that way for awhile Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle Oh, but let them be little. I never felt so much in one little tender touch I live for those kisses, your prayers and your wishes And now that you're teaching me how only a child can see Tonight while we're on our knees all I ask is Please... Let them be little 'Cause they're only that way for awhile Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle Oh, but let them be little. So innocent, a precious soul, You turn around and It's time to let them go. So, let them be little 'Cause they're only that way for awhile Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle Oh, but let them be little. Let them be little... Jodi

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - The Soundtrack of My Life - Track 3 |
| Posted in Lyrics as Poetry |
Things continue to be busy and action-packed around here, keeping me from posting to my blog. So many exciting and interesting things have happened, but I still don't have time to tell you about it! Isn't that frustrating?!? I will try to catch up soon!
In the meantime, as I predicted, I'm already on my 2nd Nichole Nordeman song as my 3rd 'lifetrack'. I wasn't going to share this one yet, but I found a way to let you play the song as you read the lyrics (if you choose), so I figured I might as well go ahead. I really love this song. There's no big personal backstory to go with this one, I just think it's a beautiful and meaningful song and I remember crying out to the Lord in the various stages of my life as the song illustrates. I think that qualifies it for a spot on my list.
Push the play button below to hear the song (at less than optimal quality). RealPlayer required - if you see the player below, you should be able to listen to the song.
I Am - Nichole Nordeman
Pencil marks on the wall, I wasn't always this tall, You scattered some monsters from beneath my bed. You watched my team win, You watched my team lose, You watched when my bicycle went down again.
And when I was weak, Unable to speak, Still I could call You by name. And I said, "Elbow-healer, Super-hero, Come if You can," And You said, "I am."
Only sixteen, Life is so mean, What kind of curfew is at ten p.m.? You saw my mistakes, You watched my heart break, Heard when I swore I'd never love again.
When I was weak, Unable to speak, Still I could call You by name. And I said, "Heart-ache Healer, Secret-keeper, Be my Best Friend," And You said, "I am."
You saw me wear white, By pale candlelight, I said forever to what lies ahead. Two kids and a dream, With kids that can scream too much, It might seem when it's two a.m.
And when I am weak, Unable to speak, Still I will call You by name. "Oh, Shepherd, Savior, Pasture-maker, Hold on to my hand," And You say, "I am."
The winds of change, And circumstance blow in And all around us, So we find a foothold that's familiar, And bless the moments that we feel You nearer.
And life had begun, I was woven and spun, You let the angels dance 'round the throne. And who can say when, But they'll dance again, When I am free and finally headed home.
I will be weak, Unable to speak, Still I will call You by name. "Creator, Maker, Life-sustainer, Comforter, Healer, My Redeemer, Lord and King, Beginning and the End." "I am. Yes, I am."
Isn't that nice? I always feel so calm after listening to this song. Something I'm in dire need of right now - inner peace and calm. ;-) Aaaaaah. Thanks for letting me share.

Friday, June 16, 2006 - The Soundtrack of My Life - Track 2 |
| Posted in Lyrics as Poetry |
Has it really been 3 weeks since my last entry? I've been busy working *with* blogs on the tech support side of things, just not writing my own! Like the cobbler whose children have no shoes, I guess. I have so much I should blog about, but
there's just been too much going on to write about
tonight. I'll save that for another day and will instead share with you another 'Soundtrack of My
Life' song.
I haven't really talked much about some of the personal difficulties I've been going through over the last 9 months or so. I'm not really ready to 'go public' with it and I'm not sure I need to, but if you pay attention over time, you will probably notice an ongoing theme with many of the lyrics I post.
This is a song I'm sure many know already. It has special meaning for me because it's kind of become my personal anthem as I've been working through my issues. A big thing I've had to deal with is trying to listen to the Voice of Truth instead of the negative thoughts - and downright lies - that drift into my head, trying to drag me down. Sometimes these thoughts can make me feel so hopeless and inadequate...which I am and would remain, if it weren't for what the Voice of Truth tells us. Through Christ we have hope and strength and are more than adequate for any trial we face. In the midst of the battle, it's easy to listen to the thoughts of doubt, but it's then that we need to be especially diligent in listening to the Voice of Truth.
Want to hear the song while you read the lyrics? Click on the link below to go to the Casting Crowns Myspace page and choose "Voice of Truth" on the jukebox to hear the entire song. Casting Crowns Music
Voice of Truth Sung by Casting Crowns Music and Lyrics by Mark Hall and Steven Curtis Chapman
Oh, what I would do to have The kind of faith it takes To climb out of this boat I'm in Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is And He's holding out His hand
But the waves are calling out my name And they laugh at me Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed The waves they keep on telling me Time and time again, "Boy, you'll never win!" "You'll never win!"
But the voice of truth tells me a different story The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!" And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory." Out of all the voices calling out to me I will choose to listen and believe The voice of truth
Oh what I would do to have The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors Shaking in their armor Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand
But the giant's calling out my name And he laughs at me Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed The giant keeps on telling me Time and time again, "Boy you'll never win!" "You'll never win!"
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory."
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe
The voice of truth
But the stone was just the right size To put the giant on the ground And the waves they don't seem so high From on top of them lookin' down I will soar with the wings of eagles When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus Singing over me
The voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the voice of truth says, "This is for My glory."
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe I will choose to listen and believe
The voice of truth
I will listen and believe I will listen and believe The voice of truth I will listen and believe Because Jesus, you are the voice of truth And I will listen to You, You are

Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - The Soundtrack of My Life - Track 1 |
| Posted in Lyrics as Poetry |
I'm sure there will be a lot of songs from this extremely talented songwriter on my 'soundtrack'. She is probably my favorite of all and each song she writes touches me. You will definitely see the name "Nichole Nordeman" a lot!
This is a song that I go back to time and again. As a homeschooling parent I often feel the pressure of 'doing it all' and doing it perfectly. Even if I didn't homeschool I'd feel this way, but the added responsibilities often feel like added ways I can fail to meet my own expectations. I have so many ideas of who I should be and so rarely am that person. I think of those who seem to so effortlessly accomplish the things I want to do, but can't seem to get a grip on. I want to be a better person in so many ways, but I fail time and again and feel like I'm failing God in the process. If these feelings are at all familiar to you, here's some encouragement.
Take Me As I Am Written by Nichole Nordeman and Mark Hammond
Oh, for a heart that does not ache For a backbone that won't break For some steady feet or sturdy ground A road that isn't gonna let me turn around and run For a thousand tongues to sing
To wear wisdom like Solomon's robe For the patience and perspective of a man like Job Just to soar on wings of eagles For no other reason than the bird's eye view For a flight or two And the list gets longer Who I wish I was, and was no longer
I never could be good enough To measure up But You want to take me as I come You're the only one that can Take me as I am
Oh, to feel hope in hopeless times Never mind the silver lining 'cause the clouds are fine To breathe prayers that move the heavens Or save hundreds from the flames To know my place, to know my name But the gap grows wider Between who I am and all I aspire to be
At the end of myself, at the end of the day I can find little else but the courage to say I need You That's all...I need You

Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - Lyrics as Poetry |
| Posted in Lyrics as Poetry |
I've just added a new category to my blog - Lyrics as Poetry. I like conventional poetry, but some of the most touching 'poems' for me are song lyrics. Not just to sing or listen to, but to meditate on and absorb. There are some great songwriters out there who somehow seem to see inside of me and know what I'm feeling. When I feel like I'm the only one who's ever felt the way I do, I'll hear a song that captures it perfectly and I know that others go through similar struggles - and moments of joy.
Whether I need to cry out to God in pain and frustration or sit quietly and let my spirit be calmed or simply heed the words of Philippians 4:8: "
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are
lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise, think on these things", the lyrics of many of my favorite songs help bring me to the place I need to be.
So I will be posting some song lyrics/poetry from time to time under this new category. I am also going to start posting the lyrics of songs that are especially meaningful to me personally and will be calling these posts "The Soundtrack of My Life". There are definitely some secular songs that could fit in this category, but for the purposes of this blog I will share Christian lyrics and/or those that have a strong spiritual meaning in them.
I hope you are blessed as I share some of my favorite poems.
