Does your homeschool group hire Independent contractors?
(view similar articles on Non Profit Organizations)

Lots of homeschool groups like co-ops hire independent contractors.  The most common type is a person hired to teach a class, like art, music, science, or math.  My co-op hired six independent contractors last school year.  Everything from art to guitar teachers.

The IRS has released a new fact sheet about the diference between independent contractors and employees.  Make sure you know the difference and file the correct paperwork (W-2 or 1099MISC) at the end of the year.

The Questions and Answers page on my website also discusses independent contractors and employees.

So what is the going rate for a co-op teacher in your area?  We pay $25-$50 per hour depending on qualifications and demand.  We only pay for the hours they teach, not prep time.  How about you?
