When Do I Start Teaching the Kids About Money?
(view similar articles on Personal Finance and Taxes)
I was asked recently, "When do I start teaching the kids about money?"
Here's my answer:
- From the day they are born by your example of giving, saving, delayed gratification, and planning for the future.
- From the day they can listen to stories. Tell them about what a bank is via stories. Tell them about the foolish child who spent all their money, tell them about the evils of consumer debt...
- When they can answer a question like: "Why can't Mommy buy all the pretty clothes she wants?"
- When they won't share their toys and you ask, "Where did those toys come from?"
- When they can understand that there is a God and He provided everything they have.
