Spam Warning. The IRS does NOT e-mail taxpayers!
(view similar articles on Personal Finance and Taxes)
The IRS has mentioned several times that it does not e-mail taxpayers. If you receive an e-mail that looks like it's from the IRS delete it, it is a lie. DO NOT go to the link. They will ask you to "verify" your SSN and you will have your identity stolen.
Even HomeschoolCPA got spammed. This arrived in my mailbox today:
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $268.32
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 2-3 days in order to process it.
To access the form for your tax refund, please click here
Regards,
Internal Revenue Service
Fortunately my spam blocker caught it. I deleted it right away.
Trust me, if the IRS needs to contact you, they send a letter, they do NOT send e-mails.

Great warning! I wonder how many people fell for this scam?
BTW, it's my understanding that banks don't e-mail and ask for personal information either.
