Good $ense
(view similar articles on Personal Finance and Taxes)
My church is relaunching the Good $ense Ministry. We had a very successful workshop a couple of years ago, but then we lost our leader (he moved away). I'm excited that there is a team of people ready to teach biblical stewardship at our church again.
We're planning to have a weekend Budget workshop in January 2008 I volunteered to teach several sessions. We want to also offer the Budget workshop on Wednesday evenings and to small groups.
You'll be seeing some articles and resources from Good $ense here in the future. But for now I'll share one of their messages:
Three Myths Our Culture Teaches us:
- Debt is common and unavoidable
- Things bring happiness
- Just a little more money will solve all our problems.
In the Good $ense Budget workshop the teacher goes on to explain that the pull of the culture is in opposition to the heart and mind of God. The first session is devoted to a Bible study on what God's word says about money. Good $ense author, Dick Towner, firmly believes that money management starts with an attitude adjustment and a change in the heart. Without an attitude change, all the instruction in the world will not make one cent of a difference.
So check out the Good $ense website and see if a workshop is being held in your area. Or if you're near Cincinnati in January 2008, come to my church!
