A Journey Through Learning

Would you like to take a "journey through learning"?  In other words, would you like to see learning come to life in your homeschool?  A wonderful way to do that is by using unit studies and lapbooks. If you're asking "Where do I start?", then let me introduce you to A Journey Through Learning.

A Journey Through Learning was started by best friends and fellow homeschooling moms, Nancy and Paula (you can learn more about them here).  Together, they have created a wide assortment of lapbooking kits and unit studies - I'd encourage you to look at the huge list by clicking on the links in the left-hand sidebar of their website

The Crew members have received 5 (yes, FIVE) lapbook project kits from A Journey Through Learning for review.  I love these kits because they have everything you need to create a wonderful keepsake lapbook project, and they are in COLOR! If you have a visual learner or one who does not enjoy coloring, then you will appreciate this too.  Each kit contains full-color images to show you exactly how to put your lapbook together, and all the information that you and your children will need to complete the mini projects.

Here are the lapbook kits that the Crew received (be sure to check out the website for the rest):

What is an amphibian?, What defenses do they have in order to survive?, What about the amazing world of tadpoles?, Are there differences between frogs and toads?, What are salamanders?, What are caecilians and do we ever see them? Your child will learn the answers to these questions and so much more with our colorful and lively Amphibians Lapbook with Study Guide.

What is a reptile?, What defenses do they have in order to survive?, What do reptiles eat when they get hungry?, Just how strange are chameleons?, Do you want to know about venomous and non-venomous snakes, crocs, turtles, lizards? What is the a food chain and where do reptiles fit on the food chain?   Your child will learn the answers to these questions and so much more with this colorful and lively Reptiles Lapbook with Study Guide.

What animals call the desert home? What about insects and people? Does it rain in the desert? Your child will find out the answers to these questions and so much more with this facsinating Desert Lapbook with Study Guide. Includes a study guide that has all of the information needed to complete the mini-booklets. Beautiful, crisp photos of the desert and its inhabitants can be found through-out. Your child will have a stunning lapbook worthy of sharing with friends and family when complete.

Autumn is Awesome with this lapbook! In our Autumn is Awesome Lapbook with Study Guide, your child will learn about the signs of fall, holidays of fall, migration, symbols of fall and much, much more in a fun, hands-on way through lapbooking. Our lapbook comes with an autumn study guide to help you with filling out your booklets. Very bright and colorful. Color-coded instructions make it easy to put lapbook together.

When Jesus was on earth long ago in Palestine, he told many stories. In the Holy Bible these stories are called parables.

Jesus' parables have a double meaning. First, there is the literal meaning, apparent to anyone who has experience with the subject matter. But beyond the literal meaning lies a deeper meaning -- a beneath-the-surface lesson about God's truth and his kingdom.

When reading the parables it is important to not get bogged down in the details of the story. The main point is what counts. Each parable will typically present a single point.

In addition, Jesus often throws in a surprise or unexpected twist. These challenge the hearer and invite us to reflect. Jesus meant for his parables to provoke a response. If we listen with faith and humility then each will understand as he or she is able to receive what Jesus wishes to speak to each of our hearts.

Many parables are covered in this lapbook. They include: The Fishing Net, The Prodigal Son, The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, The Wise and Foolish Builders, The Good Samaritan, Jesus is the Vine, The Wedding Feast, The Ungrateful Servant and more.

I gotta tell you that the Amphibians Lapbook was a hit with my 3 young grandsons. Since my DD shudders at the thought of doing such a thing (with 6 little ones), I embraced it while they were away for a week and my DH and I had the kids. The first day, the 8-year-old, a total tactile learner (he struggles with reading, etc.), immediately used his free time that afternoon to create his own lapbook about frogs out of blank white paper. . . even to making up the booklets and filling them out with what a frog does: eat, swims, jumps.
Hey, sounds simple, but for HIM, this was incredible!

So I highly recommend these colorful lapbooks, especially the Amphibian one, for those "need to touch and feel" to learn kind of kids.

While we may not do a lot of fun projects, lapbooks are a hit around here. They are doable in short bits of time here and there and they store easily!

Much emphasis is placed on vertical achievement, but products like these help with the horizontal learning. Easy to understand and do.

We have done many lapbooks from other companies and designed our own as well. I found these well organized and easy to understand for a reasonable price. I highly recommend them! It's nice most are very multi-age friendly too (2-7th or 8th!)
