The Disciplined Hunter

Tonight I discovered that I was a more disciplined Hunter. It was my first oppportunity to Hunt this year and I got on my stand at 4 pm. At 5:45 the light was diminishing and I noticed two deer entering the field. I peered thru my scope and noticed that one deer was larger and the other smaller. I thought to myself that this could be a mother and her youngen. I decided at that point to watch them instead, afterall, I will have other hunts. I watched them come across the field and then feed in front of my stand. All the while I was tempted to take the larger of the two, but decided to think first before I made this decision. I finally watched the deer walk off and had a little laugh, all the while thinking how I would have shot a year or two ago , but I had become more disciplined and was able to stop and think. I climbed down from the stand and walked towards my parents home at the top of the hill, unloaded my gun, and looked across the field and saw a large Buck, his antlers seeming to touch the sky. He scampered off and I still felt content. At that point I realized that I had also learned patience that comes though discipline. I would like to ask the men out there to just stop and think before you act, especially on those decisions that can't be reversed. I know I have made some bad choices for me and my family over the years, but I am learning to think first. Tomorrow is a new day to start being a  more patient and disciplined man.

I found you after bouncing off a Google-hit I rec'd. Seems we both posted on the feminist-agenda and Doug Phillips' stand against it.

Anyway, I liked this post you made after the afore-mentioned post. As a woman, it's sweet to read about a hunter who thinks first, shoots second, instead of the other way around. My darling daughters would apreciate that, too.

Best wishes on becoming the patient and disciplined man, too.

Many blessings!

I find you to be an honorable hunter with much patience. My family hunts and over the past few years we too have become more patient. We have learned, and are still learning to enjoy watching the animals. Not to say that we don't hunt, we enjoy that as well, but we are enjoying the atmosphere of hunting without shooting more and more. A disciplined hunter is a great hunter. I enjoyed your post.
